@nosike3...I had a gs like that too that just won't allow a stud to do its job. After 3 years I stumbled upon a German shepherd stud called nebuchadnezar with a head as big as a car wheel. The bad a+s+s niga almost killed my dog with too much climb that within 3 days I begged the owner....abeg come carry this nynpho conmot for my house.

I agree with you....the Nigerian local breed is so mixed that their breed can not be recognised....for instance, my Dog is a product of the local Nigerian Bingo but after adequate care and proper feeding looks more like a rotweiller.....
Lol. You go fear mixed breed na cheesy cheesy tongue

chronique: Yea,I can relate with the alsatian and rottweiler's level of intelligence and I agree that the alsatian is more intelligent than the rott. I noticed it while training one of my dogs way back. The dog was a mix of alsatian and rottweiler. It didn't respond to commands as fast as the pure alsatians responded to commands when I was training them. Secondly,it was always lagging behind when it had to do mental work. For example,the alsatians were always the first to bark and alert me when power has been restored,water tank gets full,family member knocks at the gate or doorbell/intercom at the gate rings. Ordinarily,I would have thought that a mix of both breeds would make it more intelligent but I was wrong. The intelligence of the alsatian cannot be overlooked and it will always make it,a very popular breed even in years to come. I noticed a lot of people are going for boer bulls these days cos of the size and intimidating looks but in terms of security,intellect should be placed far above looks. My alsatians then,were so alert that they could pick up faintest of sounds from over 120 ft. I say this cos d property was built on a plot measuring 120 x 60 feet and usually,we come out in the evening to relax and take fresh air and we put our seats close to the wall,at the back of the house and the dogs seat by our side. All of a sudden,their ears will stand up firm and alert,they'd look at themselves and run very fast(like they're chasing someone),towards the gate. When they get there,they bark and their barks,would tell you if it's a family member or a visitor that's at the gate. The bark for a family member is quiet and calm and you can count it. One bark per time,in a mild tone. If it's a stranger,it's usually fast,loud,agrresive and continuous. You'd even hear them jumping on the gate(trying to force their way out to attack/chase the intruder).
Wow...intelligent. The most intelligent thing my dog, named Ruggedman, ever did was opening the gate with his fore paws. He was an expert at gate opening, sneaking off to go and eat grass, marking the area with his urine and shit, playing around a bit then coming back home to sleep. However, he is now too old to play. All he ever does now is eat, shiit and sleep. embarassed

Basenjis don't bark, they yodel. If a dog barks, it isn't a basenji. It might be a half-breed but definitely not a pure basenji.

The ekukes I know bark.
All breed bark,the Basenji is of African origin and thats ekuke.

I agree with the ratings also... German SHepherds are very intelligent and so also Rottweilers(though quite strong willed). Also observed that i only trained one generation of my dogs... every other that has come in take learnings from the bigger dogs as they respond to commands...

Chihuahuas should be ranked very high too. they are just too smart (for their size,lol)
Re: Top 10 Most Intelligent Dogs In The World by chronique(m): 2:08am On Sep 05, 2013
Opening the gate with paws;it's something the crossbreeded alsatian/rottweiller was a specialist at. It was always doing "cage break"(prison break) and we always had to tie an extra chain to hold both ends of the gate. However,he only ended up being free within the compound as the major gate to the house is big and massive. Every dog(male especially) ,pees regularly to mark a new place(especially when they're out for a walk). This is so that they can trace their way back should they need to.

I'm sorry that dog looks nothing like a Rottweiler, don't be decieved by the black colour, even from a distance, you can tell that dog is a proper Nigerian bingo, the type that can detect human faeces from 10 miles away.

I quite disagree with this.the local dogs here in nigeria are not the basenji,the basenji are quite smaller and don't bark.the significant thing about the basenji that's different from all other cannines is they come on heat only once in a year while others do @ 6mths.
The local dog I believe has not been researched to understand their traits and give the breed a name,though some ppl might have mated them with other dogs just to hype them as they would think,I still believe they are not mixed breeds per say as u can still see many pure ones around.

It is not proper care but the bloodline of the dog has been touched,most local dogs owners are always wishing for their dogs to be mated with higher breeds,gosh imagine the adulterated rotts! Chaiii!!!

Yea level of intelligence
To me it depends on ur purpose for actually needing a dog,some needs a dog only to bark and alert in case of intruders,while some prefer a quiet and dangerous dog.for me the GSD has become too intelligent just like u said,they have different barks for different purpose,but for my guard dog type in nigeria I woukd rather prefer the crazier rottweiller or a boerboel that will not want to be too familiar with you but do the guard job.

No a pure bull mastiff is not lazy,he can move its body very swiftly even as big as he is,its just not fond of barking or showing aggression,because they are bred to work in public places where ppl plays game.they are otherwise known as the game keepers dog.they can be very playful though but stand alert and watches what you do,as strangers they won't allow you take what you did not bring in away with you,they won't do this aggressively,but they have the confidence of doing their wish.they jump @ you and hold u down,they can even strip ur clothes off if they suspect you.
optimus-prime1:

Those dumb/slow dogs, I thought you'd even call the Irish Setter- now thats a Smarter Dog.
The great dane is just big for nothing to me, its not known for aggression, its not a sharp learner, its a really slow dog(its size does'nt help issues).
The Bull Mastiff has a tendency to be very Lazy no matter how active its master is, its just in its genes.

Hahahahaaaa. . .At least we know that "Bingo" is loaded with such native intelligence as:

1) Crossing busy city roads;

2) Fending for itself as owners never chop belle-full reach to feed Bingo;

3) Fathering seeeeeveral puppies in the neighborhood with ANY breed of dog;

4) Avoiding capture and being turned into Pepper Soup by peeps from certain tribes in Nigeria;

5) Barking when spirits are passing. . .

. . .And so on! LOL!

LOL! Bingo is a name, not a BREED cheesy

But if you mean The Mongrel (pictured below), the local dogs common in Nigeria, that is a mixed-breed dog that belongs to no single organizationally recognized breed, and therefore excluded from the ranking.

Really Nice. But I'm stil wondering why its predominant in Nigeria.

Thank you o. And the South African Boerboel should be on this list as long as the Rot is there.
