I could recall that many nairalanders have agitated for the creation of a distinct section for Agriculture but nothing has been done about that. In spite of the fact that agriculture is very important to Nigeria's economy and has the greatest potential to create employment for teaming unemployed youths that flock nairaland on daily basis (or is Mr Seun afraid that it may spoil biz for him). A lot of unorganised priceless information on agriculture abound here that are not easily accessible to potential investors. I wonder what "Diaries" is doing on Nairaland at the expense of "Agriculture"! I think if Seun really cares about the unemployed youths and the development of this nation, he should have a distinct section for Agriculture where people can access information on agriculture quickly and in an organised manner. Nairaland is a national pride even though it is Seun's property. Or what do you think?

I believe that there is wealth of information on this site but they need to be organised in a directory for easy access and reference. For instance, I'm researching on piggery and grasscutter farming and I believe information about them are lurking somewhere on this site. U may argue that I should use search engine to get them but I still believe having a distinct directory to them on a reputable site like Nairaland will be better. Besides, it is likely to attract agriculture experts and practitioners to share their knowledge to help others. That's my conviction.

How to collect Agricultural Loans from banks, especially by poor village farmers.
Ways to get or improve the quality of your agricultural produce. How to export your cash crops.
Best and cheaper Agricultural Foods to cultivate on that would bring food and money to farmer.
Advert for buying of agricultural produce(certain foods are scarce in certain regions, remember some specie of beans is scarce in Ibadan, business men may want to bargain for price of this agricultural produce).
Enquiries about where to get cheapest and best rice type.
Guys, make more contributions.
This Agriculture section should be given a try, if it does not serve it's purpose perfectly then it can be scrapped. There is no harm in trying.
However, this section would need much time for many investors and farmers to invest in it and make it rich and productive.
Take it to the frontpage, and get more views and positive comments, watch how Nairalanders would react positively, they would love it!!!

If we all request earnestly, I believe Seun will do this for us. He may have his reasons but he will not vehemently oppose peoples' will.

Alternatively, if u think that it will not make economic sense, you can create the section and "lease it" out per annum with agreed conditions and rules and regulation. You give the leassee power over advert and posting in the section and enforce strictly rules against posting of agric-related topics in other section. By giving the leasee the moderating power and little modification to ur programme, this can be done. To determine the appropriate value for the section, you can ask people to bid.
This will create a win-win situation for all stakeholders.
You make ur money annualy in the section through lease agreement, U don't have to pay moderator for the section.
The leasee makes his or her money through adverts in the section.
You can work out frequency of threads from the section on the front page.
Altimately, people can have access to specialised information in the section easily and free of charge.

This is just a suggestion, u can still maintain the status quo but all we are saying "Create Agric section"!

Agric as it stands is a very wide discipline. we have land mgt, horticulture, aquaculture, soil science, survey and geoinformatics, engineering, water management, animal husbandry....you name it.

A guy once came here to negotiate for a separate section for lawyers and I suggested that instead of that a section for. Profession/Career should be created because law is profession in the midst of thousands of professions.

Let's not overcrowd Nairaland. If you look well some of those topics you wish to discuss fall within BUSINESS,some within INVESTMENT and OTHERS within CAREER. All of which have already been created.

Agriculture is very vast and too important to the people to be ignored.that's the plain truth.Why a section is not created for it in a reputable site like Nairaland (the pride of the nation), I sincerely do not understand.

As much I know this forum is Seun's private business, he relies on people(traffic) for success. For you to equate Agric sector to 'others' show how we undermine this vital sector of the economy. So, you are happy that we are the highest importer of rice and packaged food? How many days can you survive without food? How many days do you require the services of a lawyer that you compared with Agriculture? Agreed that most Nigerian youths see farming as a 'poor man's thing', but think of a Nigeria without agriculture/agro-business. NYSC has a section here, but people go for NYSC only 3 times a year. We have sections like Food, without Agriculture, where would the food come from? Ok, it would be imported. Na wa ooo
