Twenty chairmen of state chapters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have endorsed beleaguered National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur to continue in the office despite the insistence of the breakaway faction on his removal as one of the many thorny demands for return of peace to the party.

The state chairmen met at the national headquarters of the party in Abuja on Monday, and afterwards released a communiqué, which was read by Chairman of the Conference of PDP State Chairmen, Emmanuel Agbo, expressing concerns over the crisis currently bedevilling the party.

They assured Tukur that not only would they remain aligned with him in this trying moment, they would also ensure that the ongoing division at the federal level does not resurface at the state level. The chairman equally pledged their allegiance to President, Goodluck Jonathan, whose 2015 presidential ambition the breakaway group wants called off.

Tukur thanked the state chairmen, saying the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has made immense contributions to the development of the country and therefore remains the custodian of the country’s unity and must always protect it.

That includes the factions within the 20 states , for example in RS the Obuah/Wike faction would have declared support for Tukur but the main Stalwarts are with Amaechi.

Please don't forget anambra, adamawa also and likely taraba state thank you.

State party chairmen have no power. What can they tell the people actually serving in office (Governor, Senator, LGA, State Parliament, etc, etc)?

This could have read that 20 janitors have pledged allegiance to Tukur and it would have the same impact.

PDP has party chairmen in all 36 states. This has nothing to do with Governors.

For example, Tunji Shelle is the PDP Party Chairman for Lagos State. He has absolutely no power, just like the other 35 PDP Party Chairmen.

My initial calculation was wrong. The 20 state chairman appeared on behalf of the 36.

The state chairmen who couldn't show up are not necessarily against Tukur because among those who couldn't show include those of Imo, Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia, Bayelsa, Kebbi, Borno, Bauchi, Delta, Edo,etc.


Those who were present include chairmen of the PDP in Zamfara, Kaduna, Katsina, Oyo, Cross River, Adamawa, Yobe, Ekiti, Benue, Kogi, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Nasarawa, Ondo, Lagos, Gombe, Ogun, Osun, FCT, Plateau, Adamawa and Rivers State.

There is never a time when all the chairmen are present in a meeting. Except in a major party convention. Some might be out of the country and some might be unable to attend for various reasons. That is a normal thing for all meetings, including govs meetings. Even ACN govs meeting dont always have all the govs in attendance. The report in itself is propaganda aimed at sending a false message. PDP is as intact as ever. keep dreaming

Those chairmen of course know that they are better served building their party than gallivanting around the country, play hide and seek with APC (armored personnel carrier) with purposeless 'New PDP' (whatever that means).
