Cold blooded:a Try Fevre Dream by George R.R. Martin. It's a refreshingly different kind of vampire novel. |

horbeat: Wao! Great avid readers here. Am so happy to meet you guys, and see a lot of books you all are reading, but I am disappointed that many books mentioned here are mostly non Nigerian author or even African author. I marvelled at this, is it that we don't have good writers in Nigeria or there work don't worth reading, or we are not aware of Nigeria writers? I think the problem is that we all are deceived by imported idea and philosophy.Guy go siddon jare......if most people don't bother with your African fiction then there's a reason don't you think?I'm not saying Western literature is all that either......Fifty Shades of Grey & The Da vinci Code exist after all, but i'm saying i get more reward for my time when i pick a book that doesn't scream Mother Africa on the cover. When they stop hyping average authors like Chimamanda & promote genuine talent maybe we'll reconsider. Till then happy reading The Beautiful Ones Are Not Yet Born 1 Like |

Play Dead by Harlan Coben. Page 135. BTW, I don't read many indigenous authors because I can't find good ones. I've read all of Adiche's books (and who's that saying she isn't a good author? She is the best Nigerian born contemporary author I know), and I love them. Most of the other African novels are just not my type. The Beautiful Ones Are Not Yet Born is purely overrated. It had less taste than Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen! My point is, I read good books that I hope to enjoy. It has nothing to do with tribalism and what-not |

tuffgongjo: .u were making sense till u said Ngozi is over rated. It's just my opinion guys, maybe wrong or right but still stand by it. never said she isn't good, only not exceptional. hey but what do i know eh? she's the one with the awards after all about those awards....am I the only one who downloaded a book cos it won a literary award only to fall asleep on the 1st chapter? dunno what criteria they use but I'm sure boring must be one of them. think they intentionally skip the more beloved books/authors & go for the lesser known ones cos they have this subjective idea of what "literature" is supposed to be. |

So, I've finally finished The Cuckoo's Calling by Robert Galbraith (who is supposedly, J.K. Rowling) and I confess that it was disappointing. Yes, it had this interesting plot with such potential but I was disappointed that the story wasn't what I expected. There was so much description and narration, and then some characters speak a variety of English I've never heard of before. I don't know what to say about the ending, except that although I was sated, I wasn't satisfied. I rate the book 4 of 5. *shrug* Anyway, I started reading The Storyteller by Jodi Picoult. Yesterday. Now at Page 51... |
