The PS4 is allegedly up to
50% faster than its next-gen
rival, the Xbox One,
according to developers who have been
working with the consoles.
The anonymous sources, speaking to Edge-
online, describe the difference between the
power of the PS4 and Xbox One as
"significant" and "obvious", with the PS4's
memory reading around 40-50% quicker than
the Xbox One.
Microsoft recently announced they had upped
the clock speed for the Xbox One and have
denied that the PS4 is faster than the Xbox
One , but according to the sources "the clock
speed update is not significant" and "does not
change things that much."
Other negative comments made by the
developers on the Xbox One are that the "Xbox
One is weaker and it’s a pain to use its
ESRAM", that the graphics drivers are
"horrible" and that Microsoft has "been late on
their drivers."
It's not all doom and gloom for the Xbox One,
however, with one developer giving an
example of where the Xbox One will be able to
outperform the PS4.
"Let’s say you are using procedural generation
or raytracing via parametric surfaces – that is,
using a lot of memory writes and not much
texturing or ALU – Xbox One will be likely be
faster.”
Of concern to potential PS4 owners is one
developer's claim that PS4 versions of
multiplatform titles may have to be toned
down in order to not show up the Xbox One
and embarass Microsoft.
Despite the differing views on offer, their
seems to be a consensus thatthe PS4 has a
significant power advantage over the Xbox
One from these particular developers and
that's certainly bad news for Microsoft and the
Xbox One.
