Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo state has described the late former governor of the State, Dr Olusegun Agagu, as an early achiever who scaled dizzying heights in the academic, political and social circles in the country.

Speaking during a condolence visit to the Ikoyi home of the Agagus, Governor Mimiko said the late Dr Agagu "was a very brilliant man who possessed a remarkable ability for hard work which was evident as he gave his best to the state first, as Deputy Governor (in the old Ondo State) and later, as Governor." The governor who expressed shock on the death of the late Agagu said the departed's recent physical and political vigour "belied the possibility of this occurrence," and counseled all to take solace in the fact that the late Dr. Agagu,"was an early achiever who scaled dizzying heights in the academic, political and social circles in the country."

While praying for the repose of the soul of the departed, Mimiko assured the family of the love and prayers of the people and government of Ondo State at this period. He announced the readiness of the government to work with the family towards giving a befitting burial to the former Ondo governor. Mr Feyi Agagu, speaking on behalf of the family, thanked the governor and his team for the visit. He said he is consoled by the outpouring of grieve and words eulogizing his late father from across the country. The praise and eulogies, he said, are more than wealth and riches that may have been left behind for him and his siblings.

In the meantime, the Ondo State Government has declared a 7 day mourning in honour of the late former governor beginning from Monday 16th September. Governor Mimiko in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Eni Akinsola, ordered that condolence registers be opened at the Governors Office, Alagbaka, Akure, the State's liaison offices in Lagos and Abuja and the headquarters of the 18 local government areas of the State. The governor also called on indigenes and residents of Ondo State to remember the Agagu family in their prayers. On Governor Mimiko's entourage were the senator representing Ondo South at the National Assembly, Sen. Boluwaji Kunlere, Hon Joseph Akinlaja representing Ondo East and West federal constituency, Commissioners Yele Ogundipe, Nike Ademujimi and Remi Olatubora of finance, Commerce and Industry and Adult and Vocational Education ministries respectively. Honourables Jumoke Akindele and Soji Akinkurolire representing the two state constituencies of Okitipupa local government area, the departed former Governor's home local government area and other top government and Labour Party Chieftains were also on the entourage.

Its indeed a sad moment here in Ondo state and we pray God grant the family of the late ex-governor the fortitude to bear the loss. As part of events to mark this great demise, i want to us to use this thread as a condolence register on Nairaland for the deceased.

Your death came to many of us as a big surprise but we accept it in good fate. This is definately a collosal loss to us in Ondo state. We have lost a rare gem in the sunshine state. You left us at a very delicate time when the politics of this nation needs brains like you to bring a working mechanism. No doubt, you will be fondly remembered by many of us for your laudable works right from when you were the deputy governor through your ministerial duty at the national level till when you temporarily faced lowly after serving as your party state chairman. Your works are enough to speak for you as you have touched many lifes during your unforgettable 5 years of being our state governor. Ondo state and Nigeria at large will definately miss you. RIP baba!!!

More importantly, i wish this serves as an eye opener to our to-be-dead politicians who are still living that a day like this too is coming for them. You will be remembered for what you have done either good or bad and even posterity who are not alive during your time will lucidly judge you and perhaps your generation based on what you have left behind as legacies and works. We all remember the likes of Awolowo, Azikiwe, Balewa for something today. What will you be remembered for after your death??

I don't think this will halt duties in public offices. Its going to be a silent one, no official gathering for celebration and stuffs like that. Also, the national flags will be lowered in offices... cry

The exit of Agagun and d lack lustre farewell messages that follow should serve as a lesson to our chunk of self-serving myopic leaders. He had a once in a life time opportunity to leave an indelible mark that will immortalise him but he played the mediocre, wasn't in any way exceptional. Now he's gone, either strolling in paradise or lost in hades, either way the wealth of the world is irrelevant. Agagun is dead, he left without a penny. Dust to dust, soldier come, soldier go! sad

okitipupa is not far from aiye and agbabu

if you link a road from lekki to the coast of ondo state. where do you think the over 5 million descendent of ondo state living in lagos, ogun, oyo will invest in. inside ondo state to be close to home.

ogun state does not want to build the road. it cost less than 5 billion . so ondo state has to build inside ogun state since most people from ijebu waterside are not ijebu.. they are descendent of ondo .

ondo state can hidden under private sector partnership.

Where do you think all the corporate companies will move to. Ondo state.. because the width of the coast of ogun state is so small. Ondo state will steal all the business from ogun state.

"Mimiko Declares 7-Days Of Mourning For Agagu" Really? Isn't this just plain hypocrisy? Given, they may not be expected to come out to 'celebrate' his demise being political adversaries and stuff, but if looters get 7 days of mourning, what's to stop others from keeping it up?

If they know they'll be disgraced while they live and even in death wouldn't that be a motivation to tone it down?

Quite frankly, a condolence message should be enough; if not for anything, for the sake of courtesy. They should shove the hypocrisy of 7 days mourning down their woreva jare . . . because next thing we will hear now will be how the State Govt will suddenly vote some ridiculous millions for the funeral, apart from other millions we'll never hear off.

I say no to hypocrisy!
