How Effective Are Our Emergency Numbers (767 And 112) by autofreak2020(m): 10:26am On Sep 25, 2013
I was very much impressed when a neighbour called lagos state emergency number (767) two weeks ago, a soon as the fully ready armed robbers evaded my street, he called this number and RRS squad arrived less than 15 minutes after his call and intervane which lead to the arrest of two of them and one of them was shot down while trying to escape in the gun battle between mobile policemen and robbers.
The incident erased all elements of doubt in my mind, i am urging all to never under-estimate the effectiveness of 767 in lagos and all other emergency numbers accross the states.
If you have ever called lagos emergency before, share your experience with us.
All nairalanders in various states accross the federation should reveal their states' emergency numbers for the benefit of the masses.

Op thanks for the info never knew emergency lines in this country are now effective except for d fire service which i called 2yrs ago and they responded on time, the Nigerian Police emergency lines are nothing to write home about coz all they will say is we are untop of the situation. If those emergency lines you gave us are really what they say it is, i think fresh air don enter Nigeria.

Funny!

HOW EFFECTIVE IS OUR COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM IN NIGERIA .. That should be the question...

Shouldnt we have just 1 shortcode number like; 999|112|666 or something.. Then when you call these shortcode, you get in touch with an operator who would enquire about your emergency and then channel you to the right agency..

Now imagine that you are in a distress situation; You just got robbed|stabbed|or something and all your phones have been stolen|lost|or drowned in the flood and you happen to meet somebody with a Nokia 3310.. Then you dail all those long numbers only to hear;

I'm Sorry, you have insufficient credit to make this call.. Please Load an all-in-one card. grin

Doesnt that show you how senseless these old farts in government truly are?!

So I am expected to store all these long numbers on my phone. Some of these Agencies even have as much as 5 numbers.. Some phones dont have provision to store 5 numbers against 1 contact sef.

Then I can imagine that these phones are mobile phones held by one individual somewhere, who might probably not have light to charge it, or may have used up the credit on the phone (afterall na Government line) and cannot call his Oga to report your emergency.. So your call will end with Yinka in a peppersoup joint near his house.. Meanwhile, you are dying o! grin

Cellphones for Emergency service personnels is a stupid idea only Nigerian Politicians can think up

Shouldnt these be Radios|walkie-talkies instead of Cellphones?!

Bros: Abeg you sabi FAAN or NAMA number?! I want to report an emergency.. I just saw another small boy entering the Tyre bay of Chachangi plane in Kano.. [/b]

I think dis should be a joke, Nigerian police you will run to their station to report a murder or arm robbery case, there is chance they will detain you first incase you are lying. I fu,cking HATE NIGERIAN POLICE FU,CK passionately.

My phone was on SOS because there was no simcard inside and my one year old pressed emergency call because I gave her the phone to play with. The next thing I heard was welcome to lagos state bla bla bla... I immediately cut the call. I didn't even know the stuff works. 911 also works

in as much as the police have issues,i give them a pass regarding emergency. i was a victim of car snatching and as i called control(07085725997) they hanged up and called me back putting me on speaker.

My complaint was sent state wide and within 15mins 3 patrol trucks had arrived, though the robbers escaped with the car,it was later found after i shut it down with the demobilizer. What impressed me most was when i had recovered the vehicle days later, they(RRS CONTROL)called to know how they performed i was really impressed.

My time spent with the police made me realise that its poor funding/motivation that is preventing better performance.
