Someone, Help, This Is An Emergency! by titilaelae(f): 11:04am On Jun 25, 2008
About 2 months ago I took a malaria injection and about 10 minutes later I felt a numbness on my thigh which continued the next day. On the 3rd day I went back to the same hospital and the doctor allayed my fears and advised that I apply balm to it that it would go with time. Despite the balm application I could feel only partial sensation on that part of my body and it was quite worrisome. Gradually the numbness gave way and replaced itself with a biting pain that increases by the day. Ive been to 2 other hospitals after my initial experience and I was given Vitamin C, Tramax Capsule, Neurovit Forte, Paracetamol and Balm. I don’t know what to do again and the pain still persists cry. cry cryIf I go to another hospital they’ll still give me analgesic! The pain is limited to the thigh muscle/skin, the bone is ok. Isn’t there any test I can do that will reveal the cause of this stubborn ailment? Please note that the injection was administered on my bum, not my thigh. Also, there was no abcess formed and the pain on the injection site did not last more that 2days!

@ Paul Smart, do I have to call you? Why don't you state the likely solution you have here for all to see?
Besides, are you a doctor or herbalist? grin

I would love to know the name of the exact injection you were given on your bum because it will help me to have a true picture of what the problem is but if you cant get it maybe you should find your way to a teaching hospital where you can get specialist.

There is a chance you must have been injected on the sciatic Nerve(history).Based on the history and mechanism of injury (2 months ago), it points to nueropraxia( mild injury) which only affects the conduction property of the nerve.If this is the case, it will go away with time.
Another clue,it may be a trigger point pain(forget about the medical jargon), or possibly referred pain from your lower back.
My advice: Seek medical advice from a qualified orthopaedic surgeon/ physiotherapist.
cheers

hi. the injection was poorly administered and i guess the nerve deep to the muscles of your buttock (sciatic nerve) was pierced. this may explain some of the symptoms you are having. cut down on the analgesics though, it may lead to other problems like peptic ulcer. i hope the damage is not much but to cheer you up , the pain will subside over time. you can sue the hospital sha, if that will make you feel better.

@Pip lord
@Dapo4u,
Thanks guys. A doctor at the hospital where I had the injection also mentioned something like nerve injury/inflamation and that it would go with time.

@Gentle Jack
@Pip lord,
The same doctor was reluctant to tell me the name of the injection. He suspected I might want to make trouble, who wouldn't? angry

Another doctor (at another hospital)  had earlier given me atesunate which I refused to take having just treated malaria. Out of desperation  I started  taking it on Friday and funny enough the pain is easing off by the day. Whao, wish I'd started earlier and I hope it brings a permanent solution. Praise the Lord, somebody.  grinThanks ye all.
