It has become a trend for some Nairalanders to boast about being professional animators after learning how to make a box or other primitive object fly across the screen and maybe possibly rotating at some point. When such people's services are sought, they deliver just that, leaving the client utterly confused for thinking they could do more than that. Please, before declaring yourself a PROFESSIONAL, here are some pointers

- Start from the absolute basics
When learning a software, do not shy away from reading the help guide and documentation. These may take you through the interface of the package you are using.

- Perfect each stage before moving to the next
For 3D animation, most people I have seen get fed-up with the modelling aspect. When they rough out the volume of the object, they often decide to just use the rough model, instead of going through stages of retopology, hence they end up with WEIRD models. This might not show in inorganic models but in organic modelling and uv unwrapping, you have to do some extra unnnecessary work. It also would help if you would challenge yourself once in a while.

- Check for Tutorials
There are tonnes of tutorials online. Take a little time off your regular social networking (facebook, twitter, instagram...) and just search for tutorials on the net.

- Join a forum/community
You can find groups on social networking sites that focus on the software you are using. One advantage of these forums probabaly is that there is power in numbers. When you post your problem, you may get help from someone who once had that problem. Also, you can get professional opinions on your work from seasoned professionals instead of the googly-eyed fans at home who are surprised you can rotate a 3D object. smiley

- Create A Portfolio
What sets you apart from other "enthusiasts" is the actual WORK samples you can produce. Present a 3-minute demoreel showcasing your strengths.
