Nigellus_Hosan:Cant remember the exact age but was a kid then. Nigellus_Hosan:"Ali and simbi," i guess. Nigellus_Hosan:It shouldn't be more than 7.lol Hated reading novels right from my childhood. I developed a solid habit of reading novels just some 20days ago or so. Nigellus_Hosan:The time frame depends on the book size in question. Nigellus_Hosan:Gifted Hands. Took me a week plus of reading and stopping before finishing it. Nigellus_Hosan:I dont know if Ababio(a chemistry text book) qualifies as a book in this context? but that book made me cry when i saw it, coupled with the fact that i just got promoted to ss1 and was still a baby. When i saw it,i knew there was no way i was going to read this big thing. "Hell no!," i thought to myself, immediately i saw the size. I didn't even realize that tears were already flowing down my cheeks. "Are you ok"? the woman in the bookshop asked me. "Yes,i'm fine ma" i murmured as i collected the book. Nigellus_Hosan:Since i've read only a few, i'll say "Gifted hands, The Secret" Nigellus_Hosan:The Secret Nigellus_Hosan:Only ones i've read were forced on me cos they were compulsory while we were in school. I'll go with "Wedlock of the gods" even though i cant recall what it was about. Nigellus_Hosan:Mystery solving, comedy, crime and romance. .. .. All izz well! |

Nigellus_Hosan:I love reading. It's my second favourite thing (just slightly knocked out by Music). I'm not sure when I started reading but I'm certain that in my Primary Two I've already started reading without moving my lips. My mom was the first person who introduced me into reading (I'll explain later). She bought me my first novel : The Fruit of Honesty. It's by a Nigerian author whose name I've forgotten. The book was precious to me. It was the sweetest book I've ever read (well, at least, for a while them). I think I finished it in three days because I had juggle reading with school which dismissed at four and my chores as an only child. The next Saturday, she got me another book: The Village School. Anyway, it became a ritual that she bought at least one new novel for me every week. I read Things Fall Apart in my Primary Six. In Junior Secondary, life took a turn and due to some circumstances I stopped reading novels. But fast forward to my JSS 3, I visited my mom's family during the holidays and it was then I was inducted again. This time, by my aunt. She's like five years older than I am and we're somewhat of a kindred spirit. I'm naturally curious and one day when they left me alone in the house, I discovered her book stacks. I was like I've struck gold. She reads Harlequin so during the holidays I got an overdose of romance, suspense and sex. It was also during this time that I discovered music (I fell head over heels for Alicia Keys' Fallin) and another source of excitement *grins* Anyway, I "borrowed" some of her novels and read them while writing my Junior WACE. During the holidays, I immensed myself into reading novels, spending whatever money I could squeeze from my savings into buying or exchanging from the post office. In my SSS1 I discovered Robin Cook and Laura Joh Rowland. Between my SS1 and SS3 I must have read close to 150 books. My favorite books of all time? Watchers by Dean Koonz, All Around The Town by Mary Higgins Clark, Abduction by Robin Cook, The Other Side of Midnight by Sidney Sheldon, The Perks of Being A Cauliflower and Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown. I don't have any favorite Nigerian novels. The only that's ever made me cry is The Perks of Being A Cauliflower. Largest Book has to be Dreamcatcher by Stephen King. Dreadfully boring, I must say. Some of the most significant stories I've read came from this super site that hosts stories for people like me. At time when I had my head in a cloud and the whole thing didn't make sense, the stories and people there helped me find myself. I can read 120k words novels in a day or two, depending on my schedule, how much I like the book and stuff. I LOVE suspense, mystery, and yes, thrillers. I guess that's why I have Koonz, Cook, Clark, Sheldon, and Brown's books in stacks |

Nigellus_Hosan:The bolded is the truth. I remember reading something just some days back where some professors said something: Lemme summarize: The first was a professor who studies a certain living organism- which i suspect to be some kind of parasite or bacteria(name forgotten). I'm not quoting him word for word cos i cant remember the exact words: He said "The organism has the ability to retain every single,i mean 'every single' light that comes it's way and converts those stored lights into energy that it uses for digestion,movement..e..t.c. The prof said a certain company is trying to study the organism, imitate it's design and develop new generation solar panels like never seen before. The second prof designs virtual systems for robots: Not quoting word for word sha: He said "after studying the human eye in order to aid them in designing an effective top class virtual system for robots,he discovered that the human eye is just too perfect. For e.g: Someone throws a ball towards your direction, and you successfully catch the ball. It might just seem like a simple thing but in reality,it isn't because the calculations that the human eye does within seconds without we noticing,is too over-whelming to be true. It calculates the distance, the trajectory, the angle and some other elements before the ball was caught successfully.. Both of them(the profs) said "Brilliant genius Scientists imitate designs already found in nature",so therefore,a higher designer must have crafted those works. Personally,it's none of my business if anyone doesn't believe in God but at-least he/she should just admit that there is a higher being, someone who crafted those mind-blowing and almost unbelievable designs in nature,so we could imitate them. The fuuny is that some people close to me think i'm an atheist. Even though they haven't said it to my face,i just know that's what they are suspecting.lol Anyway,i dont blame them cos if i were in their shoes,i would have also done thesame due to the debates we've had concerning religion, human belief, the bible and my weird stance on these issues.lol There is a very thin line btw where i am now, and being an atheist but i'll never cross the line. I believe in God,but in a very different way.. @op,Sorry for derailing. .. .. All izz well! 1 Like |
