By Muhammad Bello

Unimpressed with his visibility and a contained influence within the newly-formed All Progressives Congress (APC), many of the avid supporters of the former Head of State, Gen. Muhammad Buhari, have expressed their concern over what they described as the sidelining of their leader.

Buhari was the leader of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), which joined other political parties to form the APC.

The anxiety among his supporters is already generating uneasy calm in the former army General’s camp.

Part of their complaints is about the leadership arrangement in the interim National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.

The grouse of the erstwhile presidential candidate of the CPC in 2011 was premised on his firm grip on the defunct CPC, which he had not been able to get since the merger to form the APC.

A source close to Buhari told THISDAY that before the birth of APC,the CPC was like a military institution run by Buhari and his lieutenants. According to the source, Buhari and his men went into the current alliance with APC with that mind-set thinking that they would have a fair control of the party structure.

But this was not to be as elements of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), which came into the merger with a lot of political clout and goodwill cornered most of the key political positions in the protem NWC of the new APC.

"The CPC before the merger was a regimented party run by Buhari and his close associates alone. Much of the decisions of the party were taken by him and executed by his lieutenants. What he wanted was what was done.

"The pro-Buhari elements in the CPC went into the APC arrangement with the conviction and expectation that they would lead the group. But ACN is stronger, so it took over the mantle of leadership of the party," he explained.

Of the 35 NWC positions available when the merger took off, ACN clinched three of the most strategic- National Chairman, National Legal Adviser and National Publicity Secretary. The other two posts – that of National Secretary and National Financial Secretary, went to the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP).

Of the four parties in the merger, ACN alone has six governors, 15 senators and a widespread presence in all the six geo-political zones.

The CPC had only one governor and a swathe of followership in many states of the north.

These intimidating profile of the ACN dashed Buhari's hope of wielding as much influence in the party as he did with the CPC.

"However, if Buhari, who is highly revered by former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu does not emerge as the party's presidential candidate, intra-party conflict is imminent if another candidate emerges," another source explained.

He said the Buhari group were skeptical about Yoruba politics because "they are capable of concealing their real intention and springing surprise," especially in the choice of who flies the party's flag.

Noting that Tinubu had refused to relinquish total control of the party structure to Buhari, the source said Buhari was also difficult to understand.

"He has a problem. His associates have been purged and replaced by another set. There is a lot of problem. But there is consolation in the fact that he still commands respect and followership among the masses in the north," the source said.

Attempts to get Buhari's reaction proved abortive as he was said to be out of the country. There was no response when our correspondent called his Press Secretary, Mallam Ya'u Darazo.

They cunningly asked Buhari to stop talking. That each time he talks he messes them up. But that was also a way of taming his influence. I can swear that the Boko Haram mentor has not seen anything yet. Those rascals from South West will give him a slice of the Ribadu and Atiku treatment.

I have said it before and will repeat it again; Gen Buhari's lust for power is his greatest undoing. He should have formed a party on "diskpleen" and run it with like-minds. If he were able to clinch only a councillorship position, he should use it to show Nigerians how to be accountable in govt. Pray, what is the difference between the CPC politicians and those they seek to replace?
Buhari should have taken a cue from Mallam Aminu Kano and his PRP.
@ sincereNigerian, your presence on this thread has discredited it and it's import would be lost on us as soon as the APC ras cals descend on it. You should have used a different moniker to post this, then come in as yourself to hit hard at the APC. That is how to do your kinda job.

The OP is not an afficionado of the APC, he just wants to cause disagreement in the House, APC has come to stay.
For your Information when the time comes for we to elect the person we need, we'll do it gently, unlike the PDP that has two known faction.
NB: Defunct ACN has 19 Senators and not 15, we have 15 from SW including Sen. Robert Ajayi Boroffice from Ondo North who defected from LP to ACN, 2 from SS, 1 from SE and 1 from NC

It's always been expected.
Some or all of the aforementioned would have happened if events in APC would turn otherwise!

Who is the accursed son of Delilah that wrote this nonsense

Oh it is the Pay Per Post merchant of falsehood, harbinger of silliness and purveyor of maniacalism

For the discerning Nairalanders, General Muhammadu Buhari is the Ijele( Biggest Masquerade) in APC......hence don't need to be seen or heard all the time lest he gets over-exposed like we say in PR parlance.

He is the moral compass and integrity thermometer of APC

His place in the party is unshakeable

BUHARI IS AN UNREPENTANT RELIGIOUS BIGOT. LOOK WAT SOMEBODY LISTED AS SINS OF BUHARI>>>Facts about Buhari: 1. 90% of his supporters are Hausa fulanis. 2. 90% of his campaigns are amongst Hausa fulanis. 3. 90% of his political allies are Hausa fulanis. 4. 90% of his political rallies are violent. 5. Promised Nigerians there'll be unrest if he loses and it happened while he watched gladly. 6. Once insisted all muslims donot vote for non muslims. 6. Criticised the Nigerian military over Baga massacre, said nothing when nearly 100 policemen were killed by the Ombatse cult. These two events happened within a short interval. 7. Undemocratic and non diplomatic by nature and judging from d deep in international relations during his time. You might also need to remember how he and his adherents forced Yerima, Rochas and others out of the ANPP presidential primaries in 2007. These people were angry and expressed their displeasure openly. 8. Intensely ambitious and desperate. 9. A religious fanatic: everyone knows this, even him. He tried using a pastor to cover up that obvious flaw during d last elections. 10. CPC won just one out of all the 36 states. Ever asked your self why? Buhari tried influencing all the CPC primaries in every state. Trying to force his candidate through against the will of the people. That is corruption my friend! Buhari is corrupt! Go and ask for yourself what happened in katsina state. 11. If Buhari is so selfless as you claim, please list any notable deeds of charity or development he has done for Nigeria even amongst his people except canvassing for their votes ever since he rose to prominence. 12. His followers insist he is a changed man- more democratic. That is ridiculous! You can't sell that in the market! Guy GEJ and Buhari are devils but I'll stick with the lesser devil (GEJ) in the absence of options!!! YET ANOTHER NLANDER MADE THIS SUBMISSIONS ABOUT HIM TOO>>>I hate Buhari for the following reasons:

1. He is an unrepentant coupist,

2. He is a religious bigot,

3. He is a terrorist sponsor,

4. He is an advocate of violence,

5. He referred to Nigerians as DOGS AND BABOONS,

6. He has the looks of a criminal,

7. He stole a lot of our money as PTF chairman.

Statistically and mathematically, without being told, we all know the Election would be very tough for GEJ to come out Victorious.

2011 when the Election was based on Southern Agenda, GEJ won with about 10million votes, via rigging in some states.

If you add the Votes of the Defunct ACN and ANPP to Buhari's vote, you'd discover the margin was not much.

When the south has now decided to vote wisely, without Southern Agenda, because 2011 the 6 SW states voted for GEJ except Osun which he happens to lose.

So if all the Southern states that voted for him in the Last election are now against him, including Edo, we should be able to know there's problem somewhere.

In Anambra and Imo, the votes would be shared among the both Parties.

He(GEJ)'d lose most of the Northern Part to APC, with the votes of CPC and ANPP from the North, i believe GEJ is going down.

Brother this Analysis Makes A lot of sense, GEJ is Finished...the north is likely to align with Buhari, not because they Hate GEJ, but because they all want Change....

Edo will definitely Vote APC, So as Delta, GEJ can only win in places like Bayelsa, considering his beef with Amaechi, I doubt if he will win any wards in Rivers state...
Akpabio will definitely rig for GEJ but as thinks look, under a fairer condition, PDP might loose Akwa ibom to APC....

Perhaps GEJ is plotting d breakup of Nigeria if he looses...
