Seventeen bogus Youth Corp members, nine males and eight females, were apprehended by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) at the NYSC Orientation Camp at Kubwa, Abuja.

The arrests were made at the passing-out ceremony for the genuine corps members on the basis of intelligence reports.

It has been learnt that fifteen of the pretenders claimed to be students at various universities, one female said she wanted to get a Discharge Certificate, while one young man impersonated his sister, a genuine Corp Member currently receiving medical treatment abroad, in order to collect her Discharge Certificate.

Mr. Ekpo Nta, the ICPC Chairman, has multiple times warned parents, guardians and young students seeking admission into Universities and other tertiary institutions to ensure that their proposed courses are approved by the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC) and other Regulatory bodies.

This year, the ICPC has arrested twenty-six fake Corps members; nine others were arrested in May 2013.
