Idleness + penilessness among girls can easily lead to prostitution. Badoo subscription in Nigeria must have really shot up in recent months.

Youngzedd: COALITION of Civil Society Organizations, Market women and students have staged a protest with placards of different inscriptions at the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, over the continuous strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, alleging that the strike has increased prostitution in the country.

The group which noted that the strike was entering the fourth month appealed to the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, the Trade Union Congress, TUC and appealed to the union to call off the strike in the interest of Nigerians.
Some of the placards read, “ASUU please save our young girls from prostitution, NLC, TUC and NUPENG mediate now, Stop playing politics with our future, This ASUU strike has lost its tactics, ASUU please save our future.”
Though, the group in some of the placards had accused the striking university teachers of being selfish and too rigid in their demands, in what looked like a contradiction, the groups also said that the demands were germane and for the good of the education system.

Delivering a letter to the NLC President at the Labour House, the leader of the protest and Executive Director of Conscience Nigeria, Comrade Tosin Adeyanju said that they decided to embark on the protest to appeal to the labour leaders to mediate on the lingering face-off between ASUU and the Federal Government that had led to the continuous closure of public universities in the country.

Comrade Adeyanjul said, “We embarked on this protest today to further appeal to all major stakeholders in the Nigeria project and we deem it fit to come to the labour house because of the strategic importance that labour represents in this country.

“For almost 100 days, our students, our dependants, our children have been locked out of our ivory towers and nothing has changed. We are here to appeal to the labour leaders in this country to come and mediate on the lingering and prolonged ASUU strikes.

“We are not unaware on the germane and relevant issues raised by ASUU, there is need for our institutions to be revitalized, there is need for improved research, there is need for improved allowance, there is need for infrastructural development in ivory towers, but all over the world no country has been able to meet the demands of labour unions 100 per cent.”
“With the information available to us, we are aware that the federal government proposed and has given ASUU a 100 billion initial fund requested for different issues in the various universities.

We are aware that ASUU appealed for more money to be given on the earned allowance and 30 billion was given for earned allowance as at today about 130 billion has been given to ASUU.”
Receiving the protesters, President of NLC, Abduwaheed Omar, represented by the Chief Economist of NLC, Dr. Peter Ozo’eson said that the labour leaders had initiated moves by writing to the Federal government about four times on how to mediate but government had not responded to their letters.

...pls here is a poem I wrote to help our cause .gerian students

THE CRY OF NIGERIA STUDENTS
The dreams of reality blow on my
imaginations the wind of
necessity ,
Where had the sleeping dog lay
the night heap of lips renovated
our campuses ,
Hoping for a saviour union to set
us free
We all gazed all night through
the broken promises for years
The shadows of carefree men
care for us ,
The song of our consolations
betrays our learning classes
A spoonful is used to feed our
many hungry soul
Like forgotten children we are left
by two elephants to weather or
survive the sad tidings
The aero toilet doesn't mean
much
Learning consist in this also
Reading is our profession even at
leisure
Our hope lies beyond the broken
walls of theories
Our noble Innovations are dagger
drawn with industries
The reflection of the past weeps
for the present
Faulty education is now the base
of lucrative mechandise
How gold are mine from
ignorance of many
Now we stand in between the
future and today
Singing our still old song
Listening careful to hear
everyone sing along
From the studio of our heart
cry
To the lofty corridors of power
The sound do not pierces the
heartless
Our desire spans from the
present decay
We believe and live in the future
our stay
Nay! We stand and understand
the past
It wounds have expose our
talented nature
We have gotten the password to
the future
though refining charred some of
us
Still we came out as gold to the
world
Deep down the reservoir of our
nature
The slap on our left cheek
brought smile on the right
We still stand the sad tidings with
courage
But to the unborn generation
what shall their story say
Shall it sing the song of freedom
Shall it say we are truly
students
or shall it be another harvest of
corruption
A reaping of what they've sown
Now we reminded of this in any
decision
Generation will harvest what we
have sown
If by any means we attain to
lofty height
We must all return in small and
great
To build walls of our education
Our cry must be heard from this
present poetry to the success
story of the generation to come

Aside prostitutions by females, who told you female folks are not indulging at all the bolded listed above? Get ur fact pls!
well you're right. Females engage in such things too.
But the proportion of women in those crimes are low compared to the men

But then why would only the females be accused of prostitution?

Haven't you ever heard of gigolos ?

What about the boys patronizing sugar mummies? Isn't that prostitution?

See as everybody done dey cast naija female students as if males don't prostitute

Shey na me dey follow sugar mummy?

lorretta u: if a girl makes a generalized statement about naija guys now. All hell will be let loose

If naija girls so love easy money I guess the people involved in robbery, yahoo yahoo, all sorts of scam and 419 frauds , pipeline vandalization, rituals, selling of human parts, looting of our treasury, kidnapping etc are naija grandmothers. Not naija guys

Mind yaself.
Calm down lorritta, perhap he over generalised, but we are talking about a trend that has made it hard to differentiate btw the both. The other vices you mentioned in your post are not common only among the guys but who can say that about prostitution for money among most Nigerian girls.

musty mustapha: ASUU. When precisely is this ASUU going to wake up from their dreams atleast the FG has tried let them consider and call this so called strike off or beter still let them suspend it and continue negotiations while students go back to the classrooms.
Some Nigerians with their shallow thought. Which will you prefer: Btw assu calling off the strike, get back to sch and resume again due to unfilled agreement or stick to it till fg honoured the agremeent thereby putting an end to any future strike?

How can an increase in prostitution be attributed to the ongoing ASUU strike. Well sha i no blame the civil organisations na ASUU and FG give them the opportunity to make unrealistic claims
Re: ASUU Strike Has Increased Prostitution, Group Alleges by 4tizzle(m): 11:52am On Oct 19, 2013
If our politicians can have world class houses and cars why can't we the students have world class education? our sub standard educational system is the reason why girls go to school and start doing runs because they know that they will pass. FG should comply so runz girl would stop graduating with 2nd class upper in Openlegsology. Lol.
Re: ASUU Strike Has Increased Prostitution, Group Alleges by Youngpo413: 12:00pm On Oct 19, 2013
changes1: The ASUU strike did not increase the rate of prostitution amongst Nigerian girls in the uni. As a matter of fact it actually reduced it.
As long as a driver will always drive, a preacher will always preach, a builder will always build, a singer will always sing, a prostitute (runs girl) will always prostitute (do ashe.wo work).
It is only coming to the knowledge of their parents now because since they no longer get pocket money from their parents as usual or lie about textbooks and hand-outs to keep up their "high life", they result to their normal way of getting extra cash (prostituting) . The only difference is they are now doing it right under the nose of their parents or guardians. Even the pretending girls are bold enough to do it openly now cos "pepper no wan rest" .
Please leave govt out of this.
They have been doing it while in school, it didn't start today. Since there are no more lecturers to sleep with for marks, they have now decided to look for people to sleep with for cash. Now pls dont blame poverty entirely for this o, its just in the blood of some of the girls. When some parents fail to train their daughters well, they find someone to blame. They are now blaming ASUU/FG. Just watch, whenever the strike is over and lectures begin, they will start blaming lecturers.
Parents, train up your DAUGHTER in the way SHE should go, and when SHE is old (in the university) SHE will never depart from it.

excellent!

Ashawo is an ashawo no matter what she drives.

Absolutely ridiculous findings I must say. This theory of strike = prostitution makes no sense. . . Outside bursary payments, "did" students use to get daily, weekly or even monthly allowances from the government? Bear in mind these students are at home with the same parent who used to give them money when school was in session. The same girls prostituting now are the same ones who were prostituting when school was in session. Some things will never change.

Patdedon: Was thinking that the reverse is the case. Cause most of the so called 'runs girls' escape while they are stilll in school without the consent of their parents

nowadays, every female claims to be a "RESPONSIBLE GIRL",so my question is:who then are these RUNS GIRLs?
Re: ASUU Strike Has Increased Prostitution, Group Alleges by Nobody: 12:17pm On Oct 19, 2013
Woke4all: Fact!

will even say it reduces the rate of prostitution since many of those girls don't have freedom to do whatever they feel in their parents house.
Hmn.

jdilight: Is this how unprofessional our professionals are, quoting without research. Anyone who has been in the 4 walls of university knows that this is a big lie.

ASUU strike has reduce prostitution by more than 30% quote me anywhere. Even known student prostitute, where will dey operate from? what those that do the prostitutional arrangement, where will the operate from?

Nigerians hmmmm!

Bros, you are not current o. We are now talking of prostitution by electronic means. Blackberry phones come in handy as social media can easily be used to link up with prospective customers. The girls don't need physical "offices" to operate from.
