Ojude Oba 2013 in pictures

Ojude Oba literately means the kings's front-yard. It is an annual event when the citizens and well wishers of Ijebuland pay homage to their king (The Awujale of Ijebuland). Fixed on the 3rd day of Ileya festival because many Ijebu citizens (Muslims and Non Muslims) often travel home for the Ileya festivals...even though the event has become very popular and big that many now go home for Ileya because they don't want to miss Ojude Oba.

Before now the event usually takes place in front of the King's palace and with many titled chiefs on horses giving lots of entertainment to spectators. Years after, the Awujale asked many of the Ijebus to form various social associations with approval from the Awujale's palace. That took Ojude Oba to a new level. We have thousands of like-minds associations in Ijebu today. So yearly each recognized association come to Ojude Oba to pay homage to the king with their Musics and dances.

That is not all. The main thing is the parties after the Ojude Oba entertainments. Each Association has their party place where they eat and drink to their fill with their friends and families. Some of them engage live bands to play for them while they dance and party, others make use of DJs and party till dawn.

The fun on this day is unlimited with unlimited food, drinks, music, money, and other things you find at big parties grin

Years after, the Awujale asked many of the Ijebus to form various social associations with approval from the Awujale's palace..of course with regular 'isakole' (royalty) paid annually ( The king must chop na). That took Ojude Oba to a new level. We have thousands of like-minds associations in Ijebu today... of course each association get level o... depending on your class in the society. Getting the best at Ojude Oba 101

1. Make sure you are connected to a middle or high class association, they attract the best of the bests
2. Have at least 2 pack of N100 or N200 or $1 in your pockect
3. Dress to kill with as many blings as possible
4. Arrive with an entourage in a big way
5. Get someone to send your name to the musicians for praise singing
6. When the musician start praising you, dont get up to dance quickly wait till he thinks you are not gonna spray him money
7. When the musician is about to start praise-sing someone else...get up and bring out a bundle of money from your pocket, he must continue singing for you
8. Take your time while spraying the musician money... the longer the better, you have to steal the show
9. Within 5 to 10 mins you will have at least 3 ladies dancing around you and for you.. and as a lady you will have boys begging for your attention. Just whisper into their ears to see you after the dance.
10 Take it from me that your Ojude Oba night and hotel room will remain busy till the 2nd day of Ojude Oba

Rightly said. Ojude oba is an annual festival celebrated by the indigenes of Ijebu and their friends. Though this is celebrated 3 days after Ileya festival, it is not a religious festivity as anyone is welcomed irrespective of their religion. Muslim, Christian, Traditionalist or Atheist. It is an avenue for the sons and daughters of Ijebu to pay homage to their paramount ruler the Awujale of ijebuland. People from all works and everywhere in the world come for this festival. If U are the type that is materialistic don't be surprised to be intimidated by the wealth of some people. The horse ride kicks off the day with chiefs of some royal and prestigious houses (families) representing their people. Thereafter different associations mostly in the same uniform (Aso Ebi) come to pay homage to the king. I must tell you this is a sight to behold. There are different levels in the associations and the top associations have high calibre people as members; and U have to be someone of substance to become a member. One association I remember vividly well is Egbe Bobakeye (Literally meaning "Rejoice with the king" association) one which KWAM 1 is a member. After this, then there is celebration galore all day till the dawn.

Where is this location, not the palace I don't think.

If not for Son of Man being stuck in America I would be on a horse on that day for my Mums family. My Uncle and his Wife are both Ijebu Ode Chiefs.
