Blah blah blah...And Shoprite's help desk is located on Nairaland.
You just choose to be steadfast in your ignorance *smh 4 u*. I also love this bread if you must know, but I had to put a halt to its consumption just to confirm the news

Manufacturers who understand the strength in the purchasing power of Muslims abide by what is halal for us.

I remember when I was working with Nestle, there is an halal committee that validate and certify the production process. It's part of the QC/QA role.

If you are observant, you will see it on product labels written as Halal English or Arabic or both.

It's important we investigate shoprite, if they are producing the bread for all or just for non Muslims who eat anything they like.

You miss the 'all' part.

Pig is not to be eaten. It does not mean that you can not benefit from pig at all. If for example, its skin is used for leather, wearing its products like belt or wrist watch would be ok.

In that case, pig is good for a reason but not all good.

When you say that fire is all good. Then being burnt by fire must be so good cheesy

wait oooo.... if we re all saying dis.. den we re not supposed to b using toothbrushes cos dey re solely made from pig hairs (bristle)

I believe the best line of action for now is to put this bread on hold because it is amounting to Shubha (uncertainty) now.
Someone should do Jihad by confirming this allegation from Shoprite.

For clarity purposes, the prohibition of pig in Islam is on consumption only and not the use of its skin for other uses.
Allah knows best.

Yeah. Well said. I notice the halal labelled food products. This particular bread loaf is not one of them, as is many other consumables in Nigeria. There are countries in Europe and even south Africa that have strictly halal shops. And since we know our regulatory bodies are far from efficient, it left to the populace to pursue their rights

grin grin very sweet meat sha, however, it is not true that Shoprite uses pig oil in baking bread, cos i have worked as a service engineer in Shoprite and i can tell my Muslim friends that Shoprite bread is one of the best in Nigeria.

If time permits tomorrow, I will do just that and give an update here.

It's not a promise but an intention to do the expected.

Thanks for your concern and contribution, however, as a service engineer you may not be in the best position to discover this except if you have confirmed that.

I went to Shoprite (Lekki) and asked to see the manager. I asked point blank if they used pig oil to bake their bread and he said a categorical NO!. I am not a moslem but i dont eat pork or its derivatives cos i dont think it is healthy. I love Shoprite bread so had to clear my spirit.

I should have mentioned it that there is an online campaign against their bread so that they can bring out a press release but i forgot to.

You have no idea. Someone beside me just called her mum to tell her of this..

And I am telling my family members too. Many people are going to.spread the word.

Shoprite is gonna hear it.

The right thing would have been to put the halal sign on their products, if halal

Eh eh,I smell a conspiracy here;maybe some group of bakers is not happy wt d way shoprite bread has taken over d mkt,to d extent dat some pple now buy& resell, evn on highways. If not for conspiracy, while d sudden online campaign wen shoprite has bn in nig for some years, dey probably know dat d pig link will b big damaging factor considering how strict nigerians are wt their faiths.

Ayoobscom: I'm disappointed by some people struggling to convince/mislead people with a senseless notion of PIG FAT IS DIFFERENT FROM PIG MEAT here. I don't know why people carelessly get confused and try to deep others in the same mess.

When Qur'an Kareem says pig meat is forbidden for you, what else do you need to know, you want Qur'an to go on even the intestine, the liver and the fat are also forbidden...common grow up!

Pig meat is forbidden means the entire organs, cells, fiber, lubricants, bones, hair, blood that makes up the animal PIG IS FORBIDDEN.

If your mother insists and warn you not to touch her car again ,excuse me, would you go on to ask her if you could remove the tyres and form own bicycle?
gbam !
