SMS Technology Will Turn 21 Year Old On December 3rd!
Happy 21st Birthday In Advance.

...But the technology had humble beginnings in December 3, 1992.
Mr Papworth who sent the first text message told the SMS & Mobile Messaging Association at the 15th anniversary - "I'd never predicted that it would spread into the consumer world and become what it is today. At the time it didn't seem like a big deal."

SMS technology will turn 21 year old on Dec 3rd. The messaging service is wildly popular among mobile phone subscribers worldwide, but it wasn’t always the go-to service for communication.

While many might have assumed it would have emanated from some high-tech office in Silicon Valley, California, it came from an office in Newbury, Berkshire. It was On December 3, 1992, the first text message, containing the timely greeting "Happy Christmas,” was sent from Neil Papworth of the British company Sema Group to Vodafone’s Richard Jarvis. Papworth sent the message from his computer to Jarvis’ Orbitel 901 handset.

Mr Papworth sent the SMS (or Short Message Service) from his work computer to an Orbitel 901 handset on the Vodafone network and thereby set off a revolution in the way we communicate, date, work and network.

In the twenty-one years to-be since its debut, SMS has exploded. Today, customers send more than 7 trillion text messages every year at a rate of 200,000 per second. It is estimated that 79 percent of all mobile subscribers worldwide use SMS on their phones, and in some countries like the UK that number is almost 100 percent.

SMS remains one of the most effective channels for providing timely information on products, services etc.

Please go through the post again. And also use google to verify the information.
