I was not opportuned to work in a big company while back home but i have that opportunity here. The two companies i have worked with both have excellent and regular social activities (summer parties, free drink evenings, family day, valentine parties, time out horse racing etc). I was just wondering if this is the case in Nigeria/other countries. Is there really regular social activities apart from the usual christmas party? No hard feelings, no arguement, just want to see what social activity is like in companies/countries and if this has any positive/negative effect on us.

Hi,

Whatever I say here in regards to your topic is my own personal opinion and may or might not count. When it comes to social life in Nigeria, there are two faces to the coin. It boils down to the haves and the have nots.

All social lives as you have mentioned do exist here in Nigeria with special emphasis to Lagos where I deh. But limited to the high brow places where money can get them. Good beaches there at Lekki, good clubs there at Victoria Island, weekend parties too at the Papas and the rest of its kind. But be sure money is very much available.

Quite frankly too, you can have the money to spend, but the kind of job you do may not permit a social live at all. Sorry, but I have to mention the banking industries and the telecomms. These guys hold something, but dem no get time to spend am because they work round oko-ko-ro-kooooooo! (Cock crow)

Finally, if you are among the have nots. Well occasionally you can save small to find one mama put and chop (Nkwobi) in Ajegunle or good amala with (Ogufe) at Shitta in Surulere. Even the rich are doing their best to hijack this delicacies and are making it a bit expensive for the have nots.

So, I will say yeah! There are social lives here. But who is talking about social live anyway? When you are at home or office boiling over one unfair political or religious or failed banking issues or the other. Abi na Nepa? Sorry am off.

Thanks,

well ayomifull, depends mostly on the organisation. most organisations dont have social activities at all, they call it a waste of resources especially in this time of "recession" albeit the amount of money they make. Most social activities are employee originated. (a colleague invitng all for a time out or something on his/her bill)

Well depends on the organisation or else its just the regular end of the year party or christmas party, that is if u r lucky

one week to ease off stress at work place
Plan for the new year and have fun

Well, i have not been opportuned to work with a large organisation, where i am now and all the places i have worked in, no such thing as "Social Life" in that environment, inshort, we dont call each other except it has to do with the business. sad sad i must say, its all about WORK, WORK and more WORK!! make more money and more money! :-( :-( .
I work with a stock broking house, if you come to work on Monday and start talking about your lovely weeknd, you wont like yourself at the Profitability meeting when you will be shredded to pieces! Especially when you have not rolled in Millions in recent checks. sad
