Early Saturday morning, P.Diddy posted a picture on his Instagram page with the caption “As it should Be!!!!!!! #BlackIsBeautiful” – the photo shows a black woman standing tall in the middle of a group of awestricken white women.
Expectedly, the photo created a heated squabble on the photo-sharing platform…at the time of writing this piece, the pics has close to 50,000 likes, while others maintained that Diddy was a racist and that the photo itself promoted division, not unity.
Check out some of the comments;

“I see it as him telling black women you are beautiful and it’s time we see that. I don’t see the black woman being pulled down but instead lifted by white women…”

We really can't use his track record here as a measure of how people should respect black women. Hey what do I know. From the looks of it he has finally settled down and taking care of his family. He seems much more calm now as he ages.

Unfortunately, I am incapable of objectivity insofar as we're talking about P Diddy. I idolize this guy. . .so he can do no wrong.

However, assuming that Diddy is not involved in the matter, and I am required to address the controversy dispassionately, I would readily admit that the depiction is implicitly racist. Fortunately, since whites do not carry the psychological baggage of the slave trade and other manifestations of racial subjugation and domination, the depiction will not be deemed racist in a persecutory or offensive sense. It would have been offensively and provocatively racist if it were a white woman in the middle, surrounded by servile black women. Double standard, no doubt, but some things in life are like that.
