It was with shocking and utter surprise that I watched the fraud and scam perpetuated by COZA on November 5th, 2013. If some of you are thinking, is this the same COZA that was engrossed in a sex scandal with its pastor? Yes. I am talking about that same COZA – The Common Wealth of Zion Assembly pastored by Rev. Biodun Fatoyinbo. I know a lot of people will descend on me for writing this article, but I will start by saying that I am a Christian, a practicing one at that, and I am not an atheist, agnostic or unbeliever trying to dissuade people from serving God.

As it is a tradition in COZA, they invite other pastors for special services, this time around on Tuesday, 5th of November, COZA invited Rev Mrs Funke Adejumo of Agape Ministries Inc, an Akure based ministry. The message was mainly focused on what she termed “Rising Up”. The congregation received the message with a lot delight which focused on prosperity and moving to the next level. She said a lot of things during the message that any true person thinking the realm of common sense would know that the high point of the message was heading towards the proverbial “seed sowing”. I would not go into the details of the message because it is somewhat irrelevant to point I will making.

The high point of the sermon was when she closed it by praying blessings on the congregation. Wait a minute, who would not want to receive blessings from the Lord? The whole hall echoed with “Amen”. During the prayer, she told the charged congregation that God told her that the church will give N100 million to him ($620,000)! She then proceeded to say that while praying, she saw 100 people that will give God N1million naira! She went further to explain that those that would be giving N1 million, by 2014 they will be “blowing kisses with N1million”. To my greatest surprise people from the congregations started pouring out. After compelling more and more to come out. She told an assistant pastor to count how many people were up on the stage. It came to a total of N50 million. Next was the call for N500,000 and another call for N250,000. Finally she called the rest of the congregation to come and give $1000 (Yes, she said DOLLARS not Naira)! At the end, out of those that came out with the N1million pledge she told them that God told her that one of them will give N10 million, she then continued that God told her that some will give N5million naira etc. Did it all end here? Definitely NOT!

She prayed for all the money “categories” as is expected in this sort of settings. She instructed them to give the money before the end of year. She told the $1,000 category that if they don’t give the money by the end of next week, they should not bother because according to her God would not need it anymore. She then told the rest of the God “donors” that and I quote “You are going to write three things – your name, your telephone number, the amount, the date you are going to give it, and you will sign, after signing you will write new level!”

I find it to be a big shame that these sorts of scams are still being perpetuated in our churches. Rev. Biodun Fatoyinbo is yet to answer to the sex allegations leveled against him, yet he brings in all these pastors to sell the prospertity bait for millions! Watch out for Pastor Mike Mudock one of his collaborators is coming to do same, one of the Tuesdays in November, 2013. It is my hope that Nigerians can put on their thinking caps and understand that they are being scammed and deceived by these “God of men”!

I am definitely not surprised by this response. It is these kind of brainwashed people that make these pastors smile to the bank when the literarily rob from a brainwashed congregation!

Pastor Adeboye has set the pace for these celebrity Men of God. Now they have to psychologically harass you to give money in churches? Would Jesus have done same? These people live in affluence while their members live in abject poverty....

@op
Why call it scam? Did you give? No! Were you forced? no!

If she says God told her, leave the God and her to settle themselves. Some other people have had testimonies from such. So if your conclusion is that it's a scam. Leave it for God.

There are lots of homeless people: orphans and widows on the streets. They should help these people instead dashing it to their pastors.
