PDP Raps Tinubu Over Condolence Message On Akhigbe by Nobody: 7:12pm On Nov 06, 2013 |
The ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Tuesday criticised a leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Bola Tinubu, over the condolence message he sent to the family of a former Chief of General Staff (CGS), Admiral Mike Akhigbe (rtd). The PDP accused Tinubu for casting aspersions, playing politics with Akhigbe’s death and using the condolence visit as an opportunity to throw stones at the federal government. According to a statement by the National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Olisa Metuh, “While Tinubu sought to lay blame by calling on the federal government to heavily invest in state-of-the-heart (sic) medical facilities in local hospitals, especially in the area of diagnosis and detention (sic), so that this disease can be detected early and treated before it becomes life-threatening. “Bola Tinubu failed to note that the federal government has invested heavily in the health sector and continues to do so. Some of the investments the federal government has made include the establishment of National Trauma Centres at the University of Abuja and the National Hospital also in Abuja. The federal government also established new National Cancer Screening Centres nationwide, including at the Federal Medical Centre, Gusau in Zamfara, University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital and the National Obstetric Fistula Centre in Abakaliki.” It emphasised that ”The PDP administration of President Goodluck Jonathan also established 3,389 health centres nationwide as first line primary health provider where early detection of various ailments can be made. This is in addition to modernising the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital and the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) amongst others.” Explaining further, the statement added: “These investments in the health sector have led to outstanding feats of medical surgeries in Nigeria where the recently modernised hospitals made history by successfully carrying out the first stem cell transplant in Nigeria in February of 2012. This feat was followed by the University College Hospital Ibadan becoming the first Nigerian hospital to perform an open heart surgery in October of 2013. “But we may also like to ask what Bola Tinubu did for the health sector while he was governor of Lagos State? Lagosians are still heavily reliant on federal government health facilities such as the Lagos University Teaching Hospital and the National Orthopedic Hospital, Igbobi among others. Did Bola Tinubu do what he is now advising the federal government to do while he held power?" Consequently, the statement challenged the former governor to state how much he spent on his last birthday. “In fact, we would like to ask Tinubu how much was spent on his last birthday party. Various media reports indicate that at least N1bilion was squandered on Tinubu’s 60th birthday which lasted for a week and almost shut down the state of Lagos. Bola Tinubu has not denied these reports most likely because they are true. N1billion is enough to set up a cancer treatment hospital, but did Tinubu do so?, the PDP added. http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/pdp-raps-tinubu-over-condolence-message-on-akhigbe/163568/ |

I am amazed by the level of stupidity both Tinubu and Metuh are willing to put on public display. How many of such hospitals did Tinubu build in Lagos during his time as the executive Governor? Metuh listed achievements of Jonathan's administration in the health sector, but do they(Jonathan and other PDP top shots) patronize these hospitals? Jonathan, Tinubu, Metuh and other thieving political elites are quick to board the next flight out of the country for mere medical check-up, because they know our hospitals are not delivering praise worthy or high quality health care services. So who are they fo0ling? * Lagos State owned, LASUTH is far better and more equipped(Nigerian standard) than 80% of Federal Government owned hospitals, and it is the best state owned hospital in Nigeria. Isolo, Apapa, Badagry and Lagos General Hospitals attend to more patients than many Federal Government owned tertiary hospitals. |
