Major football tournaments such as the UEFA Champions League, CAF Champions League, FIFA World Cup playoffs et al, use the away goals rule as the tie breaker whenever teams are level on aggregate scores. The team with the most away goals is then adjudged the winner, and therefore progresses to the next round.

On the other hand, Cup competitions in England and the USA do not make use of the rule. Instead, if scores are level on aggregate, the 2nd leg game goes into extra time, and if needed, penalties.

I think it should be scrapped, because it has done more harm than good.

Tale for instance, Chelsea Vs Barcelona's match that was supposed to end with penalty, but it wasn't because of the late goal Iniesta scored..

it encourages goals... the away team tries to score.... which ginjahs the home team

or else teams will be playing for draws, extra time and pk
