Lecturers at the University of Jos have voted for continuation of the on-going strike by the Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) in the country.

Chairman of the chapter, Dr. David Jankam who made this known on Monday while speaking with THE NATION shortly after the congress of the chapter said members did not see any substance in the dialogue with the federal government to warrant calling off the strike.

According to Dr Jankam, “We have just rounded off our meeting, as a matter of fact our members voted overwhelmingly for the continuation of the state strike.

“I can also confirm to you that five of the eight universities that made up the Bauchi Zone of ASUU has also voted for continuation of the strike, and the general saying is that the federal government has not shown any commitment so far.

“We started the meeting by briefing our members on issues resolved with the federal government in their last meeting with the president of ASUU.

“But in responding to the briefing, our members observed that the main issues that led to the strike were not discussed as part of the meeting in Aso Rock.

“As such my members said president Jonathan is taking them for a ride by trying to divert attention from the core subjects of the strike”

According to Dr. Jankam, “I will now convey the resolve of our branch to our national president in our NEC meeting scheduled for this week. If the majority of the chapter voted for call off, it will ne called off, but if majority of chapters voted for continuation, so be it” said Dr. Jankam.

How are we sure that these mostly greedy, selfish, corrupt and wicked ASUU leaders conveyed exactly what the president offered in the 13 hours meeting to their state/zonal members? How are we sure they did not dilute the proposal or build in their own self-serving agenda?

If they dont accept the proposal, the president should sack all of them and rebuild the universities with lecturers that will be employed under new terms.

Employ new lecturers like, You? A Mere certificate flasher? An inexperience medical doctor turn self-appointed government spokesperson who probably think leeches can cure headache, and chlorofoam is still used as an anasthetic At a time when we are experiencing huge brain drain, we should just discard the few tested hands we've got and employ untested ones? We should discard the few qualified professors that we have and employ those with masters degree or mere certificate flashers as their replacement?

Isn't Jonathan also greedy, selfish, corrupt and wicked? You think just because you are innately dishonest, every other person must always exhibit such trait? Why not wait for their final resolution before polluting everywhere with your drivel?

I should have known you'r one of those lazy, unpatriotic, corrupt bunch, who call themselves ASUU. ASUU has been going on strike since the late 70s but what has changed? Only fools keep doing the same thing while expecting different result. Yeye!

The problem with some Nigerians is their selective approach to issues. We all read the report about the UK lecturers going on strike. How many days did the strike last? Just one day. Was the demands of the lecturers met while the strike lasted? Are the UK lecturers not aware that they can also go on indefinite strike the Nigerian way? So why didnt they use that approach?

Since you and I criticise out political leaders for not copying the RIGHT things from the western world, why not our lazy lecturers? Why is what is good for the goose not also good for the gander? Where else in the world would labour leaders shut the door of the universities for months, claiming to be fighting for improved quality of higher education? You killed education for months in the name of fighting for better education? How does that add up?

More over, ASUU has been embarking on strike since the late 70s, but decades after we'r still on the same issue. So what has changed? Motion without movement.

I dont believe in half-measures. If we want to solve the problems in our universities, we have to do it whollistically. ASUU is not part of that whollistic solution because they'r part of the problem. I will not support ASUU because the so called 2009 does not address the problems in our universities. We need to tell our selves the truth and do the RIGHT thing, which is complete autonomy of the universities (not the type ASUU is asking for). Govt should establish students loans or whatever to help those who cannot meet up with the increment of schools that will follow real autonomy. The FG govt universities will still get grants but these grants will be fixed by the NASS and will not be subject to labour dispute. ASUU should be proscribed. All labour disputes should be handled locally.

As long as we dont do the right thing, we will soon be back to square one- another strike

Your master was one of them before he joined the looting political class, and stumbled upon sudden and unaccountable wealth. He has expanded his appetite through corruption. If ASUU did not embark on strike, would Government dangle the new offer of N1.1trillion to the universities, 4 years after signing an agreement? Why did government wait for ASUU to embark on strike, before it occurred to them that there is an urgent need to inject more funds into the university system? Would Jonathan and the other ruling class wait for 4 years before receiving their earned allowance(s)?

I honestly believe ASUU should soften on her demands, and call off the strike solely because of the plight of the parents and students and not because of some irresponsible crooks in government who went ahead to sign an agreement, only to renege later and started acting like they are the real victim.

I see you referencing the UK lecturers! Is the UK government as irresponsible as that of ours? You can only use crude tactics to deal with an irresponsible government.

Dont you get it? ASUU uses strike to blackmail and pressure govt into signing ridiculous and un-implementable agreements. Yar Adua signed that agreement in 2009 just to get ASUU off his back, even if momentarily. The same thing is happening again. After 4 months strike, govt has been forced to make new concessions, even if just to make the ASUU call off the strike momentarily. Its been like that since the late 70s. So the cycle of madness continues.

Meanwhile, are you insinuating that because govt is irresponsible, ASUU should also act irresponsibly? So if people from ASUU find themselves in govt tomorrow, they'll continue with the irresponsibility? So the cycle of irresponsibility continues? Yet, mischief makers like you claim you want a better Nigeria? What happens to copying best practices and being the change you want to see?

Do you think those guys are so heartless that they would pull such ridiculous stunt?

Don't you think late president Yar'adua who was once a lecturer in a college of education university understood them to the extent that he had to sign such agreement?

Don't you think they know quite well that even the president was learned enough to discover their stunts?

Pls stop being a hypocrite.

Why should government wait for a strike action before fulfilling her obligation? Before ASUU embarked on strike, 54 letters had been sent to the FG, reminding the government on the said agreement and her lackadaisical attitude towards the implementation of the agreement yet the government never bothered to reach out to them. A Strike action to them happened to be the last resort. You can only use crude tactics to pressurize an irresponsible government.

And during that period, government couldn't commence a re-negotiation but had to wait until the association embarked on strike? An act of irresponsibility. If government had made them see reasons and tabled this offer of N1.1trillion long ago together with prompt payment of their working allowances, would they have embarked on a strike? I insist that you guys should stop portraying government as the victim! No matter how ridiculous the agreement is, it was government who signed it and government is a continuum.

I shudder at the demonic propensity of GEJites to lie when ASUU indeed had revealed that after Gamaliel Onosode committee finished with engaging ASUU and turned in his report

Yar'adua commissioned GEJ as the VP to look through the report, fine tune and advise Government as to its implementability. GEJ was reported to come back after a month and advise Government to go ahead and sign the MOU

Indeed ASUU later revealed that EACH page of the agreement was signed to forstall any attempt by either party to deny any clause or point raised in the negotiation later in future

So I ask was there chewing gum blocking the eyelids of Government officials then as to have signed an agreement you might be ill at ease to implement

So it is patent falsehood to say that GEJ didn't know anything about the agreement

He was the one that advised Government to 'DO THE NEEDFUL'

Dear God,

You are the Almighty God. You are God all by yourself. No one elected you and no one can impeach you.

I pray for your son Jonathan, who is faced with principalities and powers that have held this nation down in backwardness and darkness for decades. These demons now bear various names including ASSU, Boko Haram, NPDP, APC, northern Elders forum, NGF, etc. All these demonic wickedness in high places have one common mission: to stop your son Jonathan from completing his transformation programme come 2015.

Dear lord, in whatever way/form they come against your son, let them fall in shame. Let their wicked imagination not see the light of the day, Let their evil plot backfire and may they never see the throne of this nation.

Throw your weight around oh God and let them know there is a God in heaven who rules in the affairs of men.

Thank you lord.
In Jesus name
