PROLOGUE
*** The world is like an expansive estate with two big gates, at opposite ends. The newly born creatures are welcomed through the front gate while the dead creatures leave through the other gate leading to the place where Myth terms as "The Underworld" (Place of the dead). The human babies are not opportuned to the choice of race, skin colour and family background before being taken through the gate. Nonetheless, a new life begins, the society praises the son of the Rich and degrades the son of the Poor. The son of the rich lives with no fear for tomorrow, everyday was another party, another merriment, then the crumbs from the after-party is being passed on to the son of the poor. But situation changes too, things might not always remain as they were... *** -TheOnlyIBK

Dayo took out a notepad, scribbled in some few sentences before looking out through the window that brought rays of sunrise into his room. It was a beautiful morning indeed, he could see the gateman, Baba Segun watering the flowers in the big compound.

The man was listening to some old jazz music, with a chewing stick fixed firmly in his mouth, he swinged the hose through which the water came out from in a rythm manner. He had mastered the acts of watering plants. Ocassionally, he whistled out loud the tunes coming out from his new radio. Dayo noticed this almost immediately.

It was a green and black coloured radio. The old gateman really had much love for radios and the reason was not far-fetched. Baba Segun was always in the company of his best friend, Mallam Haruna, the water seller in the neighbourhood.
He might have given his northern friend some percentage of his salary to purchase a new one for him.

"I guess this man should be having about four radios, if i am not wrong", Dayo had said to himself.

Baba Segun was really enjoying the morning in his own way.

"Different strokes for different folks", he had said in a yawning tone.

Disgust formed on Dayo's face the next moment, the gateman had spat out a large chunk of mucus on the flowers. The man had continued his work oblivious of the fact that someone was watching him. Dayo was not just in such mood to start lecturing an old illiterate.

He lazily stood up as he dropped his notepad on a small bedside table. He stretched for about a lifetime before doing some light exercise.

D-boss as he was fondly called by his friends had almost all the physical appearances that could make any female want to throw herself at him at any given opportunity.

His relationship with the opposite sex made him realise that most females prefer a sexually attractive male and he could boldly say 9 out of 10 ladies would refer to him as "Sexy".

Standing at 6ft 2", broad shoulder and a well-formed athletic body all thanks to the numerous visits to Emeka's Gym. Ironically, Emeka was not that type of hulky fellow as expected instead he was a slim guy but you dare not try to take that as an advantage because Emeka was a Taekwando instructor and had perfected the acts of kicks and solid punches that could make a "Hulk" have a second look at him.

Dayo was one of those lucky chaps that had everything at their beck and call. As the only son of a top Lagos chief and businessman, he was respected by many but he still managed to mix with people.

He had ego but he used it properly, when needed. After a fun-filled and exciting four years in the University of Lagos, he joined the frenzy of Nysc. He was eagerly looking forward to something many termed as a "Wasteful and Irrelevant".

As expected, his father was already arranging ways by which he was not going to take part in the programme. His father wanted him to go abroad and take some professional courses and become a registered proffesional before coming back to take full control of the family's construction company.

Dayo and the driver had gone straight to the airport that morning, they were to pick Chief Akinloye, Dayo's father. He had been away on his London trip for two weeks.

Night flight was the right option for him as he really did not like landing on the shores of Nigeria in late evening.

After much formalities that almost took a lifetime. Father and Son decided it was time to leave the airport for home. Chief Akinloye was particularly happy, his son had just graduated a week back. He really was in high spirits. His only son was making him happy after all.

Chief had tried all he could do to have more than one son, but all to no avail. He had two legal wives and several concubines. It was only Mama Dayo, his first wife that could give him a son.

The most painful part was that the woman died while trying to push out Dayo's twin sister. Unfortunately, she could not make it, the baby died too. She had lost so much blood during the process.

He married his second wife after a year had gone since the demise of his first wife.

The second wife didn't help matters at all as she had three children, all of them were female. He was disappointed so he had to try getting his heart-felt desire from outside.

He had almost married one of his concubines when events turned out to be that the boy the young lady had given birth to was not his afterall. He hated himself so much and almost took the life of the lady. He had spent so much on her and he had promised to do more.

He was jolted back from his reverie when the driver pulled off the car in the compound's massive garage that housed five other choice cars. The surroundings had a strong smell of oppulence.

The next evening, Chief called Dayo into the living room. He informed him of his plans for him to go abroad and continue his education. Dayo showed his eagerness but when his father hinted him of how he was not going for Nysc, he became displeased.

He immediately convinced his dad to let him participate as this would give him the experience he needed for the outside world. "Experience indeed!",you would say. Yes, Dayo had enough plans, he wanted to taste from the pot of every lady from different parts of the country.

After some minutes of talks, his father reluctantly agreed but he maintained the stance that his son was going to do his service in Lagos. Dayo didn't care much, his plans was still going to work out, he thought.

Dayo hurriedly took his phone as he made contact with one of his numerous Akoka pals.

"Press 1 to copy this ringback tune," a female voice
seemed to be saying.

"Cheats! That is all you guys know how to do, improve your service and..." Dayo was responding to the anonymous lady when the receiver picked the call.

"Hello, who am i speaking with?," a guy with a tiny voice asked.

"Hey Dolapo! It is me, Dayo, Dayo Akinloye" he replied giving a sharp description of himself.

" D-boss, how far now (stressing the now)? You just got this number? " Dolapo asked excitedly.

Just when Dayo was about replying, the line went off. Dayo cursed loudly.

"I have always told this guy to switch network but he just will not listen," he concluded before pocketing his phone to resume the movie he was seeing before his dad called for his attention.

Dolapo was one of those guys that was in Bayo's clique back in school. They rocked the whole of Akoka and it's environs together but unlike the rest of the members of their clique, Dolapo was the only one that came from an average income family but he sure had lot of things working for him. His brilliance, business ideas and wonderful social sense were all plus for him.

Above all, he was a ladies man. His handsomess covered it all and as for Dayo being a default womanizer, the two friends were just super compactible.

The following day, Dayo packed few of his clothings and those of his dad's to the laundry. On his way back home, he decided to check on Dolapo.

He drove past the light traffic of Lagos mainland which was quite usual in the late hours of a monday morning. With full air-conditioning system working, he increased the volume of the car's stereo to it's maximum.

A popular Nigerian hip-hop song was playing. The beat of the song was massive and amazing. He was in high spirits that morning, he felt like he was driving his way into Heaven with the escort of angels.

He got to Dolapo's place in about twenty minutes and was ushered in by a young and beautiful lady supposed to be in her late teenage, probably twenty.

Dayo instantly guessed that she could be one of Dolapo's numerous female cousins. He was not sure if he had seen her picture on Dolapo's phone.

He was brought back from his thoughts when the young lady tapped his hands before giving him a friendly smile.

"Maybe she knows what i was thinking," he had said in his mind with fear.

Her backside swayed sweetly as she walked before him. He noticed this immediately and was about to...

He was about to adjust his jean as his b'o'ner was becoming visible when his phone gave a 'beep' sound.

It was a debit alert from the bank, he had made use of an Atm (Automated Teller Machine) on his way to Dolapo's place.

She settled him in and informed him of Dolapo's absence and that he was in the next street where he went to check on someone.

"What should i offer you," she asked with full smiles

"A glass of water will do," Dayo replied like a perfect gentleman.

"I'll be right back," she assured as she strolled into the kitchen with a sexy walking posture.

"Yvonne Nelson, i have your medicine..." Dayo was singing Iyanya's dance track 'Ur Waist" absent-mindedly when Dolapo's mother came into the sitting room.

They exchanged pleasntries and had a light talk. He called Dolapo to inform him of his presence. Dolapo's cousin served him with the glass of water before she found a seat adjacent to his.

An hollywood movie was showing on TV. He tried to steal glances at her but maybe she was reading his mind because her eyes always caught him.

He was getting tired so he took the bold step, he complemented her beauty and asked for her name.

"I am Adeola and i guess you are Dayo?," she said.

"Yes, i am," he replied with a naughty wink.

She laughed at his actions, they were both enjoying each other's company. Just as Dayo was about taking things further, Dolapo came in.

They discussed for long, Dayo hinted him of his discussion with his father and his plans for Nysc. Dolapo hailed him as he knew what he was capable of.

"I hope you have not set out your net for this morning's 'fish', fisherman," Dolapo had said to him, referring to Adeola.

They both laughed out.

Dayo checked his Hublot wristwatch and decided it was time to leave for his home. He informed Dolapo so he could go and get dressed. He was going to drop Dolapo at a warehouse in Yaba.

Just about then, the new 'fish', Adeola came into the sitting room. She was looking for something. Dayo knew what was up so he played along. He quickly exchanged phone numbers with her.

"Game on," he whispered silently to nobody in particular.

Dayo got up from the sofa and stretched till he fell back helpleslly. He needed a break badly. He had been so absorbed with work on his laptop. His father, Chief Akinloye was having his birthday party in a month's time and he was saddled with the responsibility of sending e-mails and sms to the numerous invited guests.

As he got up and was about to get himself a bottle of water from the fridge in the kitchen, he noticed the light notification on his blackberry phone. He had muted it to avoid distraction. He made a mental note to check what it was but not after he had completely downed three glasses of water, he was that thirsty.

He was having several pings and a particular missed call from an unknown number.
He was too tired to call back but he managed to reply all his missed pings. He had barely done this when he fell into a deep sleep.

He woke up some few minutes to 7pm. He had slept for two straight hours. He was feeling so hungry, his face could testify to that. The unknown caller had called again while he was asleep.

His step-mother and her children had all travelled out of the country few days ago. Chief was not going to be around for the next three days. He was virtually home alone save for Mulikat, their lousy housemaid and the ever garrulous Baba Segun.

His two dogs, Captain and Mayor were a better companion. They were of foreign breeds, Labrador Retriever and Doberman Pinschers respectively. He routinely took them out for a walk twice every week. The dogs' house could pass for a boy's quarter.
He had planned on inviting his cousins for the weekend. He could not stand being alone in the house with those two human terror.

He decided to know who the unknown caller was. He scrolled to the call log section on his phone's menu and he pressed the green key.

Weekend came and after what seemed like an eternity, it was over. He had somehow manage to suppress his fears. His cousins could not make it. They were still stuck in school going about their projects' defense.

****************************************************

The unknown caller turned out to be Adeola. He was so excited when he recognized her voice on phone but as a sharp guy, he had to hide it, a bit, atleast. He told her how had countlessly called her mobile number all to no avail.

She explained why it was so. According to her, a guy picked her pocket and made away with some money and her phone while she was returning from the market where she had gone to buy some stuffs. She also went on to hint him on how she succeeded in copying his number from Dolapo's phone while he was asleep as she didn't want to raise any form of suspicion.

Though Dayo was not happy with the theft incident and he sympathized with her but he was still glad of her efforts in trying to reach him. He appreciated her and teased her freely on phone, he could feel her blushing away. That was his speciality. They exchanged BB pins before the call ended.

****************************************************

Lot of events had taken place in the last two days. Naming , Burial, Wedding, Birthday and just anything that could be termed as unforgettable atleast for a while. He also had his own special event, if it was to fo with the word 'unforgettable'.

As his thoughts raced back to last night. A wicked smile crossed his face. He was gradually crossing into the promised land, as he had obviously fought and won all the battles on his way.

Deola, as has had started calling her was a 300lvl student of Uniport. Her family had their house there as they had to relocate from Lagos when her Father was transferred to oversee one of the company's branch. They had moved down to Port-Harcourt when she was 12. She always enjoyed spending the festive period in Lagos. Apart from that,

Dayo also found out that she was really smart, open and daring. They did 'bad' things on phone. He was tempted to invite her over but he didn't want to look too desperate, so he played cool.
He had proposed that they go out on a date and she agreed to it. He was not going to leave any stone unturned.

Dayo got up in a quick move with full vexation written all over his face. He didn't even bother to yawn or stretch. His muscles twitched in one move. Baba Segun's 'meaningless' chatter with Mallam Haruna accompanied with the God-forsaken radio was the reason.

The radio could pass for a town bell, it was as loud as that. He was about to have carnal knowledge of a lady in his dream. The lady was the full-figured Sister Comfort.

Comfort was his faculty and level mate. They had met in year one during the fresher's orientation programme. He once had heavy crush on her then as he always imagined her wriggling her body under his control.

The sight of her 'twin-tower' was incredible. He day-dreamed about suckling on it but all of these gradually turned into a mirage. Comfort decided to give her life to Christ in the middle of the semester. Nevertheless, he continued to stalk her and he once openly professed his 'love' for her at the school's waterfront park where he had met her relaxing.

He was embarassed as she didn't pay attention to all he said much to the amusemnt of everyone that were present. Instead, she shared a christain tracts with him and he invited her for a church service before she made her way out leaving him transfixed like a statue.

He sent her lot of expensive gifts but she rejected them all. He even worshipped in the school's fellowship to impress her but she knew what was up and still didn't succumb to the pressure. She preached the word of God to him severally and implored him to change his ways instead.

One thing that baffled Dayo was that she never made the mistake of paying him a visit and she never invited him over too, except they met at the park or open spaces. Soon, his friends began mocking his meek lifestyle so he got upset and he decided to end his miserable attempt in getting her laid but not after he had promised himself to get her later.

A wicked smile crossed his face as he remembered all of these. Anger quickly crept in again. He must deal deal with the person that spoilt his fun.

'Mekus! Mekulele!!!', Dayo hailed Emeka as he stepped into the Gym that morning.

'D-boss, this one wey u no carry ur ride come, wetin happen?', Emeka said as he noticed that Dayo's car was not outside.

'Ah! The toy dey house o, i been dey plan to go my normal joint today', he replied giving Emeka a knowing look.

'So, you didn't hear about Pyro's death?', Emeka asked changing his tone to indicate seriousness

'Seriously? But i was at his place last week, on wednesday', Dayo replied as he tried to balance his words.

'Toorh, wednesday keh?...na for Saturday the guy been logout comot for this world', Emeka concluded.

'But what could have been the cause? Peter was a cool guy abi', he managed to say, he was in deep shock.

'Guy bone o...that guy was an ex-cultist, his cult sent some spies to track and eliminate him', Emeka answered his question before he left him standing alone to attend other clients.

Peter was one of his neighbourhood friends. He was nicknamed 'Pyro'. Dayo met him some few months back at Emeka's gym and since then they had been on good levels.

He took interest in him because of his personality, Pyro had a rugged appearance but a down-to-earth personality.

Pyro had a drinking bar some streets away from the gym. That was Dayo's best hanging spot in the neighbourhood. It was a very enclosed area.

He always smoked his weeds there since he didn't want to tarnish his 'good boy' reputation at home.

He kept his identity secret so he never made the mistake of taking his car along. He had planned on going to Pyro's bar on that saturday but Adeola kept him busy all through on the phone. He might have been a victim too.

He had spent two hours in the gym already and he was still working out. Emeka knew something was amiss and felt it could be connected to the news of Peter's death.

He decided to give Dayo a wrap of weed but not after he had called him to a corner.

He told him to use the office toilet on the downfloor and he instructed him to make use of the air freshener spray.

Dayo was glad that someone knew what he needed at that moment. He dipped the rolled weed into his pocket and made for the toilet on the ground floor
