Over 1,000 Nigerians Held In Saudi Arabia by ceo4eva: 9:16am On Nov 23, 2013

Over 1000 Nigerians are being held in inhumane conditions in a warehouse in Saudi Arabia over issues concerning incomplete residency papers, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) reported on its tweeter on Thursday.

A Nigerian who spoke to the BBC Hausa Service from the General Service detention centre at Al-Shumaisy, near Makkah, said hundreds of them are being detained under “unbearable condition” for over two weeks, claiming that no Nigerian consulate official had visited them.

“At least, we are Nigerians. There are about 1,000 of us here in the detention facility, including women and children. We spent at least two weeks here. Some of us could not even perform five daily prayers because they are sick and they are not receiving any medical attention. They put us under air-conditioner and everybody is shivering because of cold,” one of the detainees said.

He said that they were detained along with nationals from Niger, Ethiopia, Bangladesh, Mali and Pakistan, among others; adding that unlike Nigeria, other countries have since come forward to pick their nationals.

He claimed that they couldn’t reach Nigerian consulate officials. “We could not reach Nigerian officials since we were detained here. We were asked to come out, and we obeyed. But they are keeping us here, “he said.

Where is that man that is representing Nigeria in Saudi?! He is an ambassador i think? That man must be a very nonchallant person for an issue to be reported on air, BBC Hausa for that matter and he is sitting in one zone eating date palm! When you talk about inhumanity, i think this case is qualified! I have always heard this country is a so called welcoming country..what about this trash!

You begin to wonder why you should be a law abiding citizen. Pakistanis, Ethiopians even Niger republic came to rescue their citizens but Nigerian representatives in Saudi gave ZERO care for their own.
We all know everything have a "fake" but for a country to have a fake is something else. I can't believe I'm living in a fake country!

I have said it before, if I ever find myself in trouble in a foreign land, the last place I will go to for help is the NIGERIA CONSULATE. Infact I wouldn't even find one sef (cos they make themselves invisible), so what am I saying.

If there were British, American, canadian, European, Australian and even Ghanaian citizens... their government would have made themsleves available to them. How many years ago did I watch in the news that some Aussie tourists were stranded in a politically violent country and could not return to their country because some airlines refused to fly (something like that). No be their government chatter QANTAS planes to go pick them up? Nigeria, let me not start abeg, it's too early for a migraine.

What are these people doing with incomplete papers BTW.

So, because of the fact that they are moslems the Arabians should over-look them for not having their genuine documents! Very funny.

Even Iraqi govt will reach there and protect their country people before Nigeria govt will even think about doing anything. The poorest of all nations will do anything to protect their people, Nigeria will never do that.

Even that warehouse will be better than their homes in Nigeria....and that's if they have any
