The governor of Luanda summarized the act stating that Muslims were not welcome in Angola and that the government would not legalize the presence of mosques in the country.
“This is the final end of islamic influence in our country”,said the President,José Eduardo dos Santos.
The Minister of Culture,Rosa Cruz went in the same direction by stating that: “The process of legalization of Islam has not been approved by the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights, their mosques will be closed until further notice.”
The Angolan government has decided to destroy the country’s mosques,Islam is not considered a religion in its own right in the country.Last October, the minaret of a mainly frequented by Guinean mosque was dismantled.
In the urban commune of Zango, the municipality has gone further by destroying the only mosque in the city.

This is nothing to rejoice over. Religious intolerance is not the answer to anyone's problem. If there is any trend that never dies, it is the reality that when a religion/sect is being 'persecuted', thats when they flourish the most. Let love lead

Well dicey move. I wish they could do the same also for its twin brother -christianity. These two religions are the worst legacies of colonization in africa- both by Arabs and the Europeans.
Countries start their journey to development by either banning religion or at least separating it complete from the state.

Having said that, the enforcement of a ban on religion would be difficult in todays global village. Also I just hope Islamic Fundamentalists would not launch a Jihad on Angola to punish this move.

Now they have attracted the attention of terrorists. As a christian, I must say this is totally unnecessary cos I wouldn't like it if christianity is banned from a country. If islam is not an influential religion in Angola why decide to ban it ? And if it is gaining popularity why ban it?
I hope it isn't a result of fear of terrorism, being an islamist doesn't make you a terrorist, being a terrorist doesn't make yóu an islamist.
