Delta Awards Contract For Second Int’l Airport by Nobody: 5:18am On Dec 13, 2013
Delta State Government has awarded contract for the building of a second international airport at Osubi, near Warri.

Deputy Governor, Professor Amos Utuama, announced this at the All Saints’ Cathedral Church, Ughelli, during a thanksgiving service for the victory of Senator Emmanuel Aguariavwodo in the October 12 Delta Central Senatorial by-election.

He said Warri, as the commercial headquarters of the state, needed an international airport. While noting that the state government was committed to its completion, he assured that Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan’s administration would finish strong in 2015.

Everytime we hear of contracts being awarded for "international" airports, yet the airports can't be said to be up to par with even "local" standard. Rubbish! undecided

Though this is a another welcome development, it isn't far from the fact that it is another Asaba/Warri rivalry. But above that, this is a very welcome development. All cities in Nigeria should have an airport.
States like Anambra with no airport should be owning three airports.
Rivers state that is the Treasure Base of the Nation should have like four airports.

What is there to welcome? Why an international airport in a city begging for adequate infrastructure? An international airport would be worthwhile if a spike in visitors was expected in Warri considering there's already one in Asaba but its far from so. The Osubi airstrip as it is, is meeting the needs of the state and I've not heard of airliner falling over themselves to fly to Warri. Another bigger airport is totally unnecessary. Someone needs to call Ibori's cousin to order.

Rivers state is big enough and suitable for this trend.
With an airport in Bonny (needed asap) , Eleme (local) and Okrika (air strip) , the economy of Nigeria's oil pit will remain stable than any other country in the world.
Forget about Lagos, they have a tiny landmass and they don't do much for the nation like Rivers state is doing.

It is a very welcome development. The traffic on the road should be reduced, hence the risk of road accidents is reduced on our roads.
Warri is more open to Delta masses than Asaba, so I don't see anything wrong with that.
We should be talking of Anambra and Abia, that is worthy of having three and two airports respectively, but with none as we speak.

another airport while Asaba is a sh1t hole
no roads
it is either Nnebisi or the express road
though warri is way more big it is more developed than Asaba the capital
it is only their people that get state government appointment
na wa for urhobo/itsekiri people

I actually think Lagos deserves 50 airports while every other states deserve 20 airports each. Is airport a place where bicycles are parked? Nonsense.

I sincerely think this is a waste and as someone said, it's just the usual Asaba Vs Warri competition for projects. If a project is done in Asaba, another one, most probably bigger must be done in Warri.

I don't think they are building a new airport rather I think the project is an upgrade of the existing Osubi airstrip to a full international airport, its actually a very busy airstrip with a lot of flights especially for oil workers who are going offshore and the general populace at large
However this shouldn't be a priority with other important issues at hand, 2 airports are already more than sufficient for the state

The reason for this project is not difficult to fathom. It is
borne out of strategic thinking to reposition infrastructure in that
region in case of a future separate state or something bigger than that.

Big misplaced priority for a state that has no deep sea port, what stops them from developing a deep sea port that would be shared with their neighbours in anambra since they are sharing asaba airport, delta state also has no reputable university and polytechnics so whom are they building the airport for

Thank you and my greatest wish is to separate from this people and have our own state because their thinking mentality is so bad.

how is it misplaced priority ? It is a welcome development as far as if the government is ready to spend judiciously. Moreover this will create both direct and indirect jobs to people of Delta State and Nigerians at large but my challenges with all this project is how soon will the project be completed ?

Have you been to Warri? Do you think an international airport is the most pressing need in the city? If its not then how is this a welcome development?

the govt should be concerned with fixing things people in the state use more frequently, honestly what do the people gain from more airports? undecided
