I didn't really encounter much problem learning how to operate a computer as I was taught by my brother and I learnt it at the early stage of my life..We used to have a computer set in the house then so asides the tutoring I received from my bro I would sneak back to the PC whenever I was home alone pressing the keyboard and fiddling with the mouse until I became an expert at operating it.

For me, I went to Computer school. For the first day in school, I took my sit and was just waiting for instructions from the teacher. Then he started showing us the keyboard, mouse, and the rest of things. Then ask us to boot the system. I now ask him back, "do you mean we should touch the computer?", he said yes. The confidence was then on me, I started pressing buttons on the CPU until I got to the Power button and I could see some indicator lights showing, I knew it was on. The system took almost forever to get to desktop and when it was finally there, we were given more instructions on what to do. We actually started out with typing using Corel Word Perfect. But I tell you, even with the teacher guiding us and all the fans in the class, I was still sweating working around with the computer. My mind would just be telling me, if you spoil this Computer now, what would you do? I was just so careful touching the system. When I remember those days today, I'll just laugh cheesy

My case happened in 2001, My mom just came back from the states and dragged me and my sis to a cafe to get an email.
I was asked what email i would love to use, I said, Seun
the computer guy said, think of another, then i said emmanuel
he said he would use seunemma.

so he gave me my email address and password.
Next opportunity i had with a computer was with my sister, she took me along and it was amazing seeing us sitting very close to the screen and seeing FREE this Free that and i was mad that she didn't click them.

the first curiosity got me to this stage, I totally ditched the nonsense mechanical engineering wey i read for school completely for IT and have never regretted it nor looked back.

I now run many IT services : webdezzi.com, magicbulk.com

Back then on campus, one of my roommates, a graphic designer owned a desktop. The guy is always busy on it everyday. I begged him that I'll like to learn. He said I'm free to work on it at night. He opens MS word/Excel for me always. Trial by error by my slogan then. Lol. After about 3days, I became bored with the usual MS suites, I decided to go on a "adventure." During my adventure, I made a "terrible" mistake(or so I thought). I deleted a folder. I started sweating after I have pressed anything "pressable." I was almost kneeling when I told him I have removed an item. He went to the system and smiled and told me next time I check the "Recycle bin." I almost cried that day...

I had my first experience on a PC in Primary 3..
We were instructed to type our full names cheesy
We were very scared then grin No thanks to our teacher. One would think computer is one wicked robot (god) from their description.

Years after that experience, I didn't much have opportunity to develop myself.

In 2007 or so, I went for a proper training (data processing/desktop publishing) and ever since then, my skills have improved greatly. All thanks to Uncle ****, he inspired me alot. Back then, I always feel intimidated whenever he TYPEs (super fast).

But today, I no sure say he go fit stand my speed grin

I'm still learning everyday.

Everything is possible on a computer!

It was someday in 01 or 02 I guess. I had this neighbour who told me yo accompany him to a cyber cafe. On getting there,I was surprised at the computer world. It was bigger than my imagination back then,so I watched him and studied how he did it. The next day I went alone and bought air time, ttoubleshooted for 2 good hours and this became a way of life everyday for a while. What actually made me fall in love with the whole surfing was porn. It was total freedom to do and say all without any form of judgement. I knew over a million porn sites and pornstars online then, maybe Hi5 too (that was then sha)......

@Op we seem to be in the same page, those cyber cafe then were too rude and can snub at any slightest question thrown to them ...com see the swag.

In fact I spent alot money buying tickets which always expired without me achieving any this. To open my yahoo e.mail na wahala, but i'm really happy this first time a friend sent me his picture even though we are living at the town. come see jubilation.

Now,I still need to go and learn a basic computer.

oweniwe: I'll set the ball rolling. .

Back then in 2003/4 or so when i was in SS2, African Church Grammar School, Abeokuta, the Government Teacher gave us an assignment to browse about. . "legitimacy". . , print out the web page and stocmit to him.

I followed some class mates to a nearby cyber cafe and was amazed at how they were operating the "computer set". I was so ashamed as i watched them browsing. . My mates are computer literate while i stood there looking dumbly at them. .

So. . I started saving my taxi fare. . I would trek a long distance way from Olomore to Saint Peters' or Lafenwa and then take taxi from there to school. . That way, i was able to save N20 for about 2 weeks until i hav N200. I didn't bother to ask folks at home for "cyber cafe money" coz i knew the kind of reply i would get.

When the N200 was complete, i went to a cyber cafe bought a 30 minutes ticket (cyber cafe was expensive in those days). . Na there my problem start o. . I didn't know how to "enter" the ticket so i called they cafe attendant. She came over, gave me one crazy look, "pressed some keys on d computer" and walked away. .

I sighed and began to fiddle with the mouse. It wasn't long before i started to draw the attention of other cafe users. . I started hearing unpleasant remarks. . "see as this boy dey waste time. . See as e dey look like mumu . . . "

The cafe attendant became irked and walked up to me. . She was very rude this time. . "what are you doing?" . . "i want to open yahoo" . . "then open yahoo" . . "how will i open yahoo?". . She just hissed loudly, entered yahoo url into the address bar. .

When yahoo page loaded, i continued to fiddle with the mouse. . Na so i hear one loud voice behind me. . "you this boy, if you don't know how to use computer, why you come waste your money?"

I just ignored him and continued fiddling with the mouse while praying for my ticket to run out quickly. I was lucky when a church member came in. . I called him over. . He gave me my first tips on how to browse. . My ticket expired. . . As i left the cafe, i could hear loud laughter everywhere until i got into the streets. .

I wasn't deterred sha. . I continued trekking to school. . Save some taxi fare. . Try out a new cyber cafe. . Ask ether users for tips. . .

Today. . About 10 years later. . People hail me as a "Computer Professor" . . But when i look back . . How the "journey" started. . . It wasn't easy. . I just laugh it off
my probs was how to shut down! Cos I always switch it off directly

My first experience with a computer, I was 6 years old at that time. That was 1995.

We visited my dad's office, and I was amazed at "this white-colored TV". Even more amazed that it had "the largest remote controller I'd ever seen" (the keyboard) grin
"OMG! BUTTANZ AND BUTTANZ AND SHINY, SHINY BUTTANZZZ!"

My elder brother (11 years old) was being taught to type by one of my dad's secretaries, but as soon he was sure she was out of sight, he closed down the Typing Tutor program to play Duke Nukem grin - and me, I no dey complain cuz the game was on point grin
But trouble arose when he started hogging the computer all to himself and not giving me a chance to "press my own".

"You've been pressing this thing the whole time. ALLOW ME TO PRESS MY OWN KWANU!" was what I said to him.

He responded with a loud "WILL YOU SHUT UP!?"

Oh boy, this thing pain me for bone! What gave him the right to diss me like that?
I angrily rose from the sofa, walked straight to him and turned off the monitor (My people, no blame me. I think say na just like TV). He simply laughed and turned it back on. That was when I walked straight to the outlet, and PULLED OUT the socket, effectively turning off the computer.
Mehn, the guy shoooouuuut! He was like "don't you know you could destroy this computer by turning it off like that? Are you maaaad!?
"You want Daddy to kill us? Don't you know you should go to Start > Shut Down and then click on "Shut Down"?

Me, I no even sabi wetin the guy dey yarn at the time. Person wey tell me to "Shut Up" before, how the hell did "Shut Down" come into the equation again kwanu? Biko, help me reason dis thing oh.

When he said he wanted to "Boot it again", I was mad confused grin
Shut up, shut down, boot, CANVASS, what the phuck is going on here?

When he turned it on, we noticed the wallpaper had turned black and white, and "Safe Mode" was written on the four corners of the screen.

"We're finished! We are finished oooooo!" was what he kept saying. Mehn, sweat rushing down my body, I looked like I had just stepped out of a swimming pool!

It was after he "booted" it one more time did things return to normal.

I tell you, we do sign of the cross up to 6000 times that day grin
