APC: Kwankwaso Threatens Tinubu, Buhari, Others by fkaz(m): 7:09am On Dec 25, 2013
INFORMATION NIGERIA– The governor of Kano State, Engr. Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso has said the governors, who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to All Progressive Congress (APC) have the chance of overshadowing other stakeholders that formed the APC.
APC is the product of a merger between three political parties namely: Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP) and the Congress for Progressive Change.
Gov. Kwankwaso was speaking against the backdrop of last week’s petition by his predecessor and a chieftain of APC, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau to the national headquarters of the party kicking against planned handing over of the party structure in the state to the incumbent governor.
Speaking with the Hausa Service of British Broadcasting Corporation, BBC, yesterday, Kwankwaso said with the growing certainty surrounding the defection of more PDP governors to APC, there was the possibility of the present five governors to emerge with the largest number of members in the party.
“There is no issue of taking over the party, because it is a new party. In the whole Nigeria, nobody has an APC membership card. So there is no need for the concern (Shekarau) of taking over the party by anyone, it is every body’s party”, he said.
Kwankwaso added: “As a mega party of ANPP, ACN and CPC, who formed the party, we from PDP are also part of that merger. And among these parties, it is PDP, our group that can boast of having five governors in APC now, with the exception of ACN.
“Unlike ACN, who are entirely into APC now, it is the PDP bloc that has all certainty of having other governors joining the party. Hence, we may be having the largest contingent in APC”, he stressed.
The Kano governor said as a strong party that is capable of winning elections in the country, APC could not be immune from certain hiccups from other members, stressing the need for understanding with people of different views and interest in any political quest.

I only see kwankwaso reacting to the former governor of the state(mallam shekarau) petition to the national party of attempt made by kwankwoso to hijack the APC party at state level in kano state. because shekarau insist he is still the leader of APC in kano while kwankwoso is also claim to be the chairman

It's actually a family affair and will soon be resolved.

Notwithstanding, the party's mechanism for resolving such conflict will soon be put to test.

The crisis between former governor of Kano State, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau and his successor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, came to the fore on Wednesday, as the former led a team of protesters from the state to the party’s national secretariat, Abuja. Shekarau and his team expressed their opposition to an alleged plan by the All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders to relinquish party structures in the state to Governor Kwankwaso.

Addressing the APC leadership, including Senator Bola Tinubu and Chief Bisi Akande, Shekarau recalled the efforts made by opposition parties in Kano State towards ensuring a successful merger.

“Being experienced persons in the politics of this country, I believe you know very well the politics of Kano State. We have been working hard to make the party succeed.

“Kano had five members in the merger planning committee, so Kano will be the last state that will do anything to make the party fail. Politics is about people. If we do not have people, there will not be party.

“We have come to register our displeasure to the leadership of the party. What we are presenting is the feelings of the people we represent. There is no sector of the party that is not represented.

“We have worked hard to make the party successful. I think when we were forming the party, we had a vision of internal democracy in building APC. “If we cannot continue with that vision, then we should forget democracy in Nigeria,” Shekarau said.

Also speaking in the same vein, Sani Hashim Hotori, who was the state chairman of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), said APC was a product of patience and sacrifice put in place by opposition parties.

“Although we have not seen the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), media reports have it that the MoU has vested the leadership of the APC of the state on the five defecting new PDP governors.”

“Mr Chairman, as a consequence of these powers alleged to have been vested on the governor of Kano State, most members and supporters of our great party in the state are voicing their worry and vehement opposition.

“They are saying that APC national executives had been so fixated in its desire to have in its fold the five defecting governors of the new PDP that it ignored the peculiarities of Kano State and pre- eminence of other founding leaders of the APC, influential party members and their supporters”, he said. Hotori said APC members constitute a great majority of the voting populace and have made great sacrifice to the success of the merger.

He therefore warned that the purported handing over of the leadership of Kano APC and the handling of registration of members to a defecting PDP governor would be a political suicide.

Responding, the APC interim national chairman, Chief Bisi Akande commended the Kano APC for being civil in registering its grievances, adding that the action was most appropriate in democracy.

He recalled efforts been made to invite more people into the party, saying it was part of the responsibility of the mobilisation and contact committee set up by the leadership.

He assured Shekarau and his team that the issued they raised would be addressed.

The APC leader also promised an improved communication between the national and state structures of the party, even as he assured that he would ensure transparency in the administration of the party.

Analysing the quote below, it seems there is a grand conspiracy to taking over APC leadership, structures and mechanism by G5 through democratic process and mobilisation of their supporters.

Shekarau has seen the handwriting on the wall and is afraid of becoming irrelevant in APC 'sooner than latter'.

“Unlike ACN, who are entirely into APC now, it is the PDP bloc that has all certainty of having other governors joining the party. Hence, we may be having the largest contingent in APC”, he stressed.

Shekarau should understand that the baton has changed hands and try working with Gov. Kwankwaso for the greater good of the party in the State...
