Nigeria: 'sodom And Gomorrah' In The Making? by Trottle: 4:44pm On Dec 26, 2013
Sex sells for N200 in a Lagos ghetto

Culture is the way of life of people in a certain tribe, community or ethnic enclave. It could connote the manner of their language, dressing, food or lifestyle.
In Nigeria, there are both the good and bad sides of culture, especially when it comes to the issue of women. For instance, in Efik, Calabar, Cross River state, there is this impressions that and average Calabar lady is a sex manic.
But, to a Tiv man in Benue state, there is no big deal if they present their wives to be banged. Though it sounds barbaric, the culture of the place allows it.
For decades, non-indigenes of Benue state, visiting their friends have engaged in marathon sex romp with the host’s wife, even while the legitimate husband could tie his wrapper and go about drinking illicit gin, popularly known as ogogoro.
Last week, our reporter visited Alaba Rago, a popular Tiv settlement, located along the ever busy Badagry Expressway, where men and women were enmeshed in sex, drinks and dances without restrictions.
What rule the scene at the community are drugs, prostitutions, boozing, gambling, and robbery
Independent checks by our reporter revealed that initially, the place was a market, where traders and buyers meet daily to transact business. It is a place where foodstuffs like yams, cassava, cocoyams, plantains etc are sold
From the outside, the market wears a busy and decent look that makes it impossible for any passerby to suspect it to be a centre for perpetrating promiscuous acts of the highest order.
But a little walk into the market tells it all that a hide out like Tiv land which has the features of the Biblical cities of Sodom and Gomorrah that were angrily destroyed by God because of their high level of immorality now exists in the heart of Lagos State.
A first timer to the place will immediately observed the heavy presence of young boys smoking thickly wrapped Indian hemp at the strategic positions.
At some other spots, some dingy looking young men were found seriously immersed in different forms of gambling.
While some invested all their time and money on throwing of dice, others lavished their resources on card betting. At some other spots, the men combined gambling, smoking with heavy drinking.
Hanging around the men in the kiosks and hut-like houses around the area were young and old women who engaged in the same activities as the men.
Apart from gambling, drug abuse and reckless consumption of alcohol, the females were found to be whores who offer their bodies to men within and outside the community at give away prices. Food vendors that were expected to maintain a high level of hygiene were not excluded from the unholy practices. With a plate in one hand to serve customers, they held wraps of Indian hemp and alcohol in the other hand and puffed smoke into the air with impunity.
Findings revealed that most of the women make love without using condom hence the large number of children found hopping around the area. In fact, some of the nursing old and young mothers were seen outside hustling for customers despite the fact that they were carrying babies in their hands. A close source to the area explained that most of them take as little as N200 to sleep with men because they are more interested in having males to entertain sexually than the financial benefits that they get from doing so.
"This place (Tiv land) is a where people catch fun without restriction and it is a no go area at the same time if you are not careful enough because it is inhabited by people shady of characters.
There is no fixed time for fun in this place. Every minute of the day is for enjoyment in this place. If you come between morning and afternoon you may not feel it that much but if you hang around in the evening, you will know that this place is another world from the one you know. We have hemp smokers, cocaine and other hard drug users, prostitutes, violent gamblers, robbers, homosexuals, lesbians, prostitutes and innocent people all operating in this place.
You are free to choose any of the groups or if you like you can belong to all.
"From what I was told, the place is named Tiv land because Tiv people from Benue State are in the majority here.
They were actually here before people of other tribes started to join them. Excessive consumption of all manners of alcohol, drug abuse and unprotected sexual life is a norm here. Both the old and young ones are into prostitution. Majority of them sleep with men without protection and that is why you can see many children all over the place.
They hardly bother to take care of such children and that is why you can see the female children taking after their mothers in sleeping with men while most of the male children freely take to crime all because that is what the grew up to know in this corrupt environment. In this place, it is very common to find mothers and their daughters sleeping with the same men. If you go into their joint right now you would see some nursing mothers that would still be inviting you to come and sleep with them.
At times you find a mother carrying a new born hustling for customers and on the other side you would see the daughter nursing a new born baby and still running after customers. You may not believe it that they can take as little as N300 to open their legs for any man. One thing you must know is that they are sexually active. They simply enjoy love making than the money they get from doing so," the source said.
Asked if police and other security agents do not come there to curb their menace, the source said that police and soldiers form the large chunk of people who daily throng the community to enjoy themselves.
"When you see police, soldier or any other uniform man in this place, he has only come here to enjoy himself. They come here to smoke Indian hemp, alcohol and have sex too. I told you earlier that this is where you can be served the latest style in the world of sex and at the cheapest price for that matter. Nobody harasses anybody here because it is a place where there is no restriction on any form of enjoyment that you may desire.
Even when boys go out to do runs and come here to take shelter nobody dares come here to disturb them. It is no man's land if you care to know. The eyes of guys in this place is blood red and anybody that toys with them may as well be prepared to be dispatched untimely to the world beyond.
"The only occasions you hear noise is when gamblers fight over money or when one person gets drunk and starts to make trouble.
"Aside from those few instances, I can tell you that nothingdeyhappen," the source concluded.
Because of the presumed active sexual life of the Tivs, another source explained that many people from other ethnic groups have over the years continued to troop into the area to either catch their fun or hustle to make both ends meet.
Young and old women of Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa and Calabar extractions were said to have joined the crop of Tiv women in entertaining their 'visitors' at what is considered the cheapest price in prostitution business.
The source hinted that religion has no place in what anybody wants to do in the area.
He said though some Christians and Muslims find time to go to church and mosque, it does not stop them from gambling, taking hard drugs or prostituting.
He narrated that the large presence of people from other tribes has brought about a sort of stiff competition into the area as many of the prostitutes now employ native languages to woo customers in order to attract patronage.
"It is not only Tiv people that operate here.
It may be so in the past but these days, we have people of different tribes operating here. In fact we have foreigners in this place too but nobody disturbs the other.
This is where you have unity in diversity and where the slogan 'One Nigeria' is truly in practice.
"Religion has no place in this place at all. Just the way you don't mix business with pleasure, you don't mix religion with what we do here. If any one wants to practice her religion
, she does not need to be told that this is not the right place. Such person should know where to go. By the time you bring in religious sentiments here, you will dampen our morale.
We have Alhajis and strong Christians here but all of that ends in their hearts.
Here there is no Sharia and there is no born again. We all belong to one kingdom and that is the kingdom of enjoyment.
"There are different categories of prostitutes here. We have some that are called dangbana that is those that smoke gbana.
If you don't know ,there is a difference between Indian hemp and gbana.Indian hemp is weed and it is big when you wrap it but gbana is powder. It is a waste product from cocaine and it is always very tiny. In short gbana is heroine. The dangbana prostitutes don't have their bath always because they are always very high after taking gbana.
They are always very brutal and criminally minded. They sleep with men purely because they want to get money to buy their hard drugs because if they don't take it when they need it, they could suffer serious breakdown. If you are going to sleep with them especially over night, you have to keep one of your eyes open,"the source advised.
In spite of the infiltration of women from other tribes, the Tiv women were said to have continued to exert their authority as the pioneer of the prostitution business in the area. They were said to have a strong association that champions their cause in the area.
Interestingly, our reporter's visit to the area coincided with their end of the year 2011 thanksgiving and party. They were all dressed gorgeously in two -wrapper and blouse and partied all night. If not for privileged information from the residents, one would not have believed that the beautiful and decent looking women were prostitutes.
With the uniform attire they wore, one would have mistaken them for Igbo women holding their regular monthly meeting or August meeting.
Angela, one of the women who spoke with our reporter narrated that they always hold thanksgiving service and party annually to appreciate God for his mercies and provisions. She said that they ought to have had the programme early in January but could not do so.
