Okenze Osuigwe opens up: Ndigbo begged IBB to annul June 12

For us here in Igbo we were aware that Abiola would not rule. Considering the type of experience we had with Awolowo, and for us to start any one then with a Yoruba man, we would be killed before he finished his tenure. What Awolowo did to us! I was in Enugu when he was released from prison and brought to Enugu. He was imprisoned for treasonable felony, but Ojukwu released him. He got to Enugu, and in my presence while he was addressing the people, he said that once he got to Ibadan he was going to declare the Oduduwa Republic. We called him and escorted him up to Benin; and by that time it had been rumoured that the Federal Government would attack us. But what happened was that when he returned home, Gowon made him Minister of Finance and Special Adviser. Awolowo's first decision after the war was that no Igbo man got more than N20. I had so much Brifran money because the money I got from during my service was still intact. Under that condition, how could the Igbos support the emergence of a Yoruba man after that hassle? So, we were involved, and Babangida was our man. He took that decision with our backing, but it has ruined all of because I should have done eight years as a commissioner.

So the Igbos backed IBB for the annulment of June 12 election?
Yes, definitely. We were always consulting among ourselves.

Anyway, stop derailing the thread. I didn't create the thread for that.

I had to do it counter nku5's revisionism.

As a proud Yoruba son and a student of Nigerian history, no hard feelings here.

I just hate when people act like betrayal between the two groups isn't a two-way traffic.

So IBB annulled the June 12Th election as a favour to Igbos, dId he? Cool. whIle that sounds about as absurd as Herod approvIng the beheadIng of John the BaptIst at the whIm of hIs daughter, I didn't realize he felt that strongly about us. Whatever happened to our love?

PULEEEZ! Even though the Idea does appeal to me, anyone with half a brain knows better than to believe this cheap load of horse sh*t.

So are you implying that the old Igbo red-cap chief is a liar? shocked

The voice of the old, is the voice of God.

However, why do Igbo's always work to undermine Yoruba's, then turn around and blame the same Yoruba's for their woes? Isn't that a tad bit moronic? You hate me and would do anything to destroy me, despite the fact that I'm normal with you - yet you still blame me for your woes.

This thread does not do justice to Osuigwe's interview by focusing on the its most devisive element.

Frankly, given the treachery and grand betrayal which Awolowo unleashed on the Igbos, after they orchestrated Awolowo's release, escorted him safely out of the area, a contrary reaction by the Igbo people would have shown that they were not humans but heavenly beings.

To be quite honest with you, I can't blame the Igbos. Awolowo is also known to be the brainchild of the starvation policy which significantly contributed to the deaths of thousands of women and children during the civil war.

With friends like Awo, who needs enemies?

Maybe IBB will help them install their ibo President.

Very intelligent boy .
Clap for yourself.
From prison to rebel leader just like that.
No consultation.
No money
No troops ,few commanders and a divided society.
Declare war
