Cristiano Ronaldo
Without a doubt, the Real Madrid star was the best player of 2013 and deserves to be win the Ballon d’Or ahead of Lionel Messi. We can’t forget how he has rescued Real Madrid many times and of course, that devastating hat-trick against Sweden in the play-offs.

Lionel Messi
Even in an injury-plagued year, this little Argentine will never be out of place in this list. However, Messi has the whole of 2014, to remind us why he is one of the greatest players the world has ever seen.

Gareth Bale
Yes, we know everyone keeps talking about THAT hat-trick against Inter Milan. If you can, shut that out. In 2013, Bale showed how he has matured as a player. From his last games for Spurs, to some brilliant performances for Madrid, the Welshman is surely one of the best in this business.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic
It’s not even about his frightening physique, but Zlatan just has to be on this list. The big Swede scored 30 goals, as PSG clinched the Ligue 1 title and is already driving them towards another this campaign.

Franck Ribery
The Bayern Munich winger won the Best Player in Europe by a landslide and it is not difficult to see why. Ribery has had a sensational year, which included him winning the treble with the Bundesliga outfit.

Neymar
Say hello to the golden boy of Brazillian soccer. The former Santos forward said yes to Barcelona this summer and has put in some sparkling performances alongside Messi and even when his Argentine idol was injured.

Luis Suarez
The million-dollar question is: if not for Suarez, where would Liverpool be? The buck-tooth striker’s mix of elusiveness, pace and lethal finishing, has been on display this year again. No wonder Arsene Wenger was desperate to land him in the summer.

Robin van Persie
Let’s not go back and forth. Robin van Persie is the reason why Manchester United won their 20th league title. The former Arsenal skipper marked his debut season at Old Trafford, with a retinue of goals and assists, to ensure Sir Alex Ferguson bowed out in style.

Sergio Aguero
Aguero is the jewel in Manchester City’s crown. The former Atletico Madrid man’s ruthlessness in front of goal and his movement, are just a joy to watch.

John Mikel Obi
What a year Mikel Obi had! Right from the beginning, when he anchored the Super Eagles’ midfield, as they became African champions again, Obi was also part of the Chelsea squad that won the Europa League. The midfielder was also on show at the Confederations Cup, where he scored a lovely goal against Uruguay.

Phillip Lahm
Surely, the mark of a special player is versatility. And that is what the Bayern skipper showed regularly this year. After Pep Guardiola took over, the full-back was moved into midfield. He took to his new position with aplomb, completing over 100 passes every other week.

Wayne Rooney
In Van Persie’s absence, Rooney reminded us what a fantastic footballer he is. Whether he was playing upfront or dropping into midfield to dictate play, the England international always put in a sparkling show.

Mesut Ozil
He is the reason why most Arsenal fans lost their minds, after he completed his world-record move to the Emirates. And in several games, he has showed them what they expected. The German playmaker’s name is almost a synonym for assists these days.
