FG to establish 9,000 strong
Army Division in S’South

ABUJA— A new Army Division
would soon be set up for the
Niger Delta region to safeguard
the nation’s economic and
territorial assets in the South-
South, and contain future threats
to the nation’s boundaries with
Cameroon, other countries and
the Gulf of Guinea area.
Sources said that the 9, 000
strong Division would be similar
to the 7 Division of the Nigerian
Army set up in Maiduguri to
checkmate terrorism and cross
border banditry.
The sources added that this
followed intelligence reports that
a new army of militant youths
was being mobilised out of
political mischief to carry out
destabilisation activities.
It was gathered that the plan
towards the new division with
possible headquarters in Port
Harcourt, was the brainchild of
the Chief of Army Staff, COAS, Lt.
General Azubuike Ihejirika, and
has the backing of Service Chiefs
including Vice Admiral Dele
Ezeoba; Chief of Air Staff, Air
Marshal Alex Badeh; Inspector
General of Police, Mohammed
Abubakar and the DG of
Department of State Services, DSS.

Hey it is not different from what Ihejirika recently establish in maiduguri due to boko-haram crises, just to harmonise the STF "operation pulo shield"
BTW south-south deserve a division since north now has three.

Nigerian Tribune gathered that the idea of setting up a new division for the Nigerian Army after the 7th Division to checkmate terrorism and cross border banditry, followed intelligence reports that a new army of militant youths was being mobilized by unpatriotic elements out of political mischief.
If it becomes a reality, the new division will balance the equation of Nigerian Army divisions following such in Lagos, (81 division), Ibadan, (2nd division), Kaduna, (1st Infantry division), Enugu (82 division), Jos, (3 division) and Maiduguri, (7th division).
Though such ad-hoc platforms like the Special Task Force for the Niger Delta, ‘Operation Pulo Shield’ exist, these are considered a temporary arrangement and in modern operations, the necessity of joint-ness makes it imperative that army should have a solid base in the oil-rich area.
Contacted for some clarifications, military sources told Nigerian Tribune that the establishment of an Army division for the Niger Delta region has become long overdue in view of the importance of the zone to the socio-economic and political wellbeing of the nation. [/b]

There's no major army division in the SS. This is the first one.

The formation of a new division doesn't equate to massive recruitment to make up the numbers!
Merely means facilities would be put in place to host a Division (accomodation, firing range, etc) while Troops would be deployed from other Formations to make up the Division!

After paying billions of naira to Asari Dokuboh, Government Tompolo and other militants monthly, there is still massive oil theft. So, who are those stealing the oil? Ghosts I supposed. This new division is definitely for 2015 pre-election, election and post-election. We, the anti-GEJ are also strategizing. We know the new army division is for 2015. We have our own plans too, but we are keeping it to our chest. Lets see who wins at the end of the day, whether the oppressors or the poor masses.

Mr presido kindly make it 2 division bkos we need one in south-west for future purpose we don't knw if bokoharam south-west we emerge.

so funny how you guys are bringing politics into this matter,anybody who understands our security needs should have expected this development.fact is this division & and the new 7th division should have come up stream long before now.

But why will a big region like South South not have an army division?

9000 Snipers

Even if they establish 20 army divisions in our region, they cannot suppress the will of our people to be free. In any case, i don't really expect them to establish this army division. It won't change anything when our people decide to rise.
