There are promising talents but there are factors affecting development.
1. The field is new in Nigeria so people are skeptical about investing time and resources to learn it.
2. False advertising brings about frustration to those who are looking for instructors/teachers. Lots of people nowadays post adverts for animation schools that teach you nothing and ask you to pay "something".
3. Dishonest criticism. Some people love to look at other people's works and criticize whereas they have no idea how to achieve the same result, let alone anything better.
...these are just some of the things newbies face.
The industry can grow if we all work together without sentiment or selfish attitude.
Re: Anima#thors! How Good Are We Really? by reidkrugger(m): 10:47am On Jan 04, 2014
@Ladanski, well put Bro. But I wldnt bother mch abt 2 n 3. And as for 1, eeerrr yeeaahhh. To a large extent, cuz animations are time consuming n expensive. Now I dnt totally see things like every1 else sees, cus for Me if I'm faced wi a challenge, I simply dig n get bigger than d challenge. That way, it don't matter anymore. So as far as d investor thing goes, I think if U r good, investors will come. And if they dnt come, go sell ur services outside this shores, like I'm plannin to do if Plan A dsnt work. Yeah, so we've gotta be Very good for that to happen. And by good, I mean way better than anything that's ever been posted here till date, just to b on d safe side. No offence Intended, but its time to get real here. So what's up?

I've written a letter of introduction and proposal . I've already got some people hooked. smiley. Hopefully, you will start seeing more of my work on TV.

C'mon Ppl. Let's do this, 3 or four guys aren't only the Animators on this forum. We talkin d way fwd here. Models and textures are good. Why isn't that so for animation. I think its more of a skill thing. Maybe we aint as passionate as we ought to, a little of Phcn n mayb the approach to study is wrong. #My thoughts, and Ladanski did drop some very salient points as well, Thumbs up Bro. Where are the animators?

That would be Awesome. Now, That's what I'm talking about. If everybody does something +ve like this, I think the awareness for Animations in this country will Power up.

I think say na only Me de find dem. Animators, oya APPEAR!!! Lolz. K, not really funny. Stil waiting for U guys. Yeah, also where all those other guys that own animation schools? And talkin abt anime schools, nigerians r very funny. U wanna pay #100,000 to b an animator? Seriously?
Re: Anima#thors! How Good Are We Really? by Nobody: 7:57pm On Jan 04, 2014
Animation schools? No make me laugh. Most times its just a group of people who have downloaded models, pose and position them on their banner and claim to be experts. If anyone is on whatsapp, I'm 08099764693. Lets chat and brainstorm. PS I use blender.
Re: Anima#thors! How Good Are We Really? by cgniyi(m): 9:53pm On Jan 04, 2014
Happy New Year,everyone!
I agree with u reid, lots of good artists in modelling, texturing, lighting & rendering.(just look at works from artists doing arch-viz)
But very few good animators. I just think artists need to dedicate time to learning animation.

For me personally, my obsession for now is with modelling ,lighting & rendering. It all started from doing Architectural renders for pay.
In fact my current job mostly involves modelling and rendering.

I would still like to make a short animated movie, but animation is still my major weakness sad. I wouldn't mind having a dedicated team of animators
to work with on a project.
.
So along with some other challenges i think a lack of skilled artists is a major problem hindering the growth of the industry.

Its Sad really. Ppl come on here trying to make money of other ppl. Placing stupid n fake ads n banners. And these other set trying to learn animation within 3 mths for 100k. Even Ppl abroad with more pros pay more n spend a lot more time.

Yeah, thanks for your inputs Niyi, and mayb u r right about d lack of skilled artist thing. But I also think that with a bit of hard work, this could b achieved. What Ppl fail to realise is that Animation is a Jealous profession. There isn't any1 I know dat does good Animations n good someother thing else. Its rare n a very difficult mix. Ppl come here speaking grammars that I've never read in any Max or any Anime Manual! Where d hell they get that, I dnt know. And they seem to b acquinted with these golden 12 old men principles and its just crazy how they go on n on about it, with nothing to show. yeah, I read them a couple of times myself like more than 20times and stil never could understand or apply them until recently. Then a friend tried to talk me into changing software cuz this one's better than the other like animation on the other software will come a lot easier. Lolz. Flimsy excuses n stuff. Well, I think that, ok skill plays a part, passion and a lot of Hard work. U want to do some other thing while learning animation? I dnt think so. Except ofcuz someone is teaching u n stil, U have to put in @least 8 to 10hrs everyday. Anything short, dude u joking. So let's get real.
Re: Anima#thors! How Good Are We Really? by reidkrugger(m): 11:36pm On Jan 04, 2014
There's a thread in this section that reads...
"A newly open animation school in lagos". Now these are d kinda hinderance n ppl dat I'm talkin abt. They know nothing, will steal other ppls work, drag d industry back and name it bad. Do take Ur time n check it out.
Re: Anima#thors! How Good Are We Really? by reidkrugger(m): 9:43am On Jan 05, 2014
Happy Sunday Everybody, and may d Peace of The Lord b with U. Ok, kinda got a bit carried away thr wi the thread thing in My last post. But like I said, d only way to get better is hard work n researches. Test out ur theories n carve out a niche for urself.
That's how I learnt. There are no short cuts n remember, U don't know what U don't know.

@Tos87, thanks. I'm honored. Hopefully, we will be pioneers in our country's cg industry. I truly admire your willingness to learn and your inquisitiveness. Alot of people just fold their arms and say "I read somewhere that...." or I have 50,000 tutorials. Keep up the good work.

Sitting down and thinking about All that have been said and as usual have pointed out the problems we face trying to b animators. Which only has solutions as staying focus, been passionate and @ what you do and giving that extra push.

I think, that if we get it right, then the money will start coming and not before. I see a lot of schools and studios springing up, yet they lack the skills to churn out good animations but are in bussiness anyways. But then again, who am I to judge?

Yeah, a bit free now n will b posting some animated stuffs on here starting feb. Mostly Character animations. And eeerrr in d very near future, I hope to charge good money for my works. And I hope CG in Naija grows.

Just checked my profile and i realized i have over 50 topics and they all on Animations. Wetin happen? 50 ke? that's too much!!! Anyways, i'm back again and wouldnt want to create any new topic if an old existing can serve same purpose or are related.
I noticed that the 3D artists have diminished greatly in this section and this doesnt look "good news" at all. Where are the other guys? This is the time to push into that frontier. If you let little challenges like light and fuel kill your dream now, then in the future you would have set yourself some several years back to been who you are supposed to be. Although some very few people are churning out interesting stuffs the other 95% look displaced. Please let's come in here once in a while to encourage each other to stay on the path.
As for me, my last anime shot was this gerrarrahere vid
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=enCSbLk3idI that i did based on freestyle. It's the first animation shot i'll be doing since the past year and would be the first time i'll be talking to 3dsmax as well. And what i'm i doing now? The part II of it is in the works and will hopefully be ready by next week or 15days time tops. So do come out from your hiding places lets talk CGI. wink grin grin
