Sadly, we are running out of this particular tiles on the upper portion, even the skirting is finished in the market around here. I am going to another market to shop for it.

@professor Spyder with due respect, in reverence to those upper tiles you refer to. I believe you should knew the total quantity you need before starting the job, what happen if you don't find that exact type in the market. I do understand any time one buy one type of particular tiles, after buying total amount needed for the job. The tillers advice to buy extral in case they break when be used, or for future damage. To be the same type. What is going to be your next action if they don't have
That same type in market any more. No vex just curious ni oh my Oga @ the top.

Thank you for the points, first we made sure to measure the whole floors and walls, we kept coming up with different quantities. I even added some extra to it. Now, in more than 10 types of tiles and skirting, only that one is giving problems to replenish.

There is one thing I like to do when shopping for tiles in Enugu. I deal with the biggest importers to ensure adequate quantities and the speed of replenishment in case it runs out. In this particular case Kurpas, GN Ibekwe and Aikez tiles were my suppliers. You know its difficult to find as much as 300 sqm of five different tiles that matches our client's choices.

It is not easy as you think, tiles are not like every other material where estimates match easily. You might calculate on the actual metres but what about the cut to fit skirting? Making excess arrangement in case of breakages is good, but too much of it might hurt, some sellers may refuse to receive it or refund you. This may tie up the funds in unneeded excess tiles.

Tilers dont like to count tiles labour in meters. They love it charged together, say N20k for the whole staircase. Him saying N2k is high.

Spyder,

What do you think about people who have soakaway/septic tanks in areas of the compound that cars drive over or park on? Do you think it is safe or would you advise against it? Secondly why are your rods not terminating at the deck in the above pix, instead they are potruding out? Do you want to form another structure on top the deck? Just wondering.

X!

If you have plans for cars to park on your septic tank, you start making provisions for adequate reinforcements from the time you start the digging. Make sure the correct gauge of steel rods, placed at the proper intervals and chained with a middle beam is arranged for. Ensure the use of solid blocks or hollow blocks filled with lean concrete. Have columns and another top beam before doing a decking on it. Make sure the decking is well cast and at least 150mm thick.

The rods protruding from this last one I did will be cut off, these guys just wasted my rods there.

I have a new blog attached to my nairaland page and I have an article written today about soakaway systems. Click the link and enjoy. grin

I had to go searching for tiles yesterday, found some from many different shops and bought them. Also bought a bag of white cement for grouting.
