|How Cure Cough With Simple Materials by Youngwee(m): 9:15am On Feb 05|
Persistent coughs that linger after other cold and flu symptoms fade usually are related to throat irritation and chest congestion. Some natural remedies can help relieve these triggers and eventually allow the coughing to cease. If your cough remains for several weeks and is accompanied by other symptoms, such as a very sore chest, a fever or a rash, consult a doctor immediately as the illness may require antibiotics.
Mustard plaster is an old-fashioned external cough remedy. The mustard heats your skin, which in turn can loosen your chest congestion. Combine one part mustard powder to two parts flour and add just enough water to form a thick paste. Spread the plaster on an old dishtowel, fold the towel in half and place it on your chest. Check your skin frequently to make sure it isn't growing too red or developing a rash. When your chest grows too warm, remove the mustard plaster compress. Repeat the process every six to eight hours. Never spread the mustard plaster directly on your skin as it can burn.
Marshmallow tea is a thick, gooey concoction that coats the throat and thins out the mucus trapped in your lungs, which makes it easier to cough up. Place 2 tsp. of dried marshmallow herb in the bottom of a mug and add about 8 oz. of boiling water. Allow it to steep for five to 10 minutes before drinking. You can consume up to three cups of marshmallow tea per day.
Homemade cough syrup soothes coughs naturally, using ingredients such as honey and lemon. Honey coats the throat and lemon reduces inflammation in your airways, making it easier to breathe without triggering your cough. To make a basic cough syrup, heat 2 tbsp. of lemon juice and 1 tbsp. of honey on the stove until the mixture is warm and thoroughly combined. Take several teaspoons as frequently as necessary to relieve the urge to cough.
Horehound Cough Drops
Horehound cough drops act as an expectorant when your cough is related to clogged lungs. They will actually trigger the cough, but will also help you get rid of the congestion. Horehound cough drops are available at drugstores and natural food stores. However, they're also quite simple to make at home. Boil a handful of dried horehound leaves in about a cup of water to make a strong tea. Pour 1/2 cup of the strained liquid into a saucepan, along with 2 cups of light brown sugar, 1 cup of dark corn syrup and 1/2 tsp. of cream of tartar. Boil the mixture over medium heat until it becomes hard and brittle when drizzled into ice water. Pour the candy into a greased pan and slice it into small, rectangular drops when it begins to harden.
