Nigerian prostitutes stormed Denmark

Prostitution is an old profession in the history of humanity they say – it has being a controversial topic of discussion – societies around the world have different views about it underpinned by cultural, religion or ethical orientation. And individualistically, people also have their respective opinion when you mention prostitution to them. 

Nigerian prostitutes have stormed and hijacked Istergade, a popular street beside Copenhagen central station, Denmark – a street known for its pornographic pictures, drug addicts’ domicile, petty drug racketeers’ paradise and so on – the girls have consolidated and converted the place to Edo night market of prostitution trade. 

They clinch around there in flock every night scrambling for customers like hungry ferocious lions. Some are so fierce that they grab passers-by confronting them with all sorts of sexual offers.

This boils down to different kinds of customers: men having physical or mental difficulties, old, young, slim, fat and generally unattractive disgusting people. Some disgruntled clients pay money to abuse them. These girls have opportunities to strive in many other walks of life.

However, the Danish police are not turning deaf ears to the illicit trade. I watched a documentary program recently on how Nigerian girls are being confronted at Copenhagen airport with a notion that they are coming prostitute in Denmark. What an image! Or an insult! Flights from Italy are usually the main targets. 

Prostitution by law is not illegal in Denmark but street prostitution is, paying somebody below the age of eighteen for any form of sexual intimacy is illegal. But, a prostitute should be registered in order to pay tax. They are not entitled to benefits or incentives other professions enjoy, for instance, financial support in case of sickness, retirement savings, labour union support etc.

There is a big contrast between Denmark and other Nordic countries in this regard: Sweden enacted law in 1999 prohibiting any form of payment for sexual intimacy, in other words, prostitution is illegal in Sweden – Finland did the same in 2006 – from 1st October 2008 the same law will be applicable in Norway. 

Apparently, these laws are pushing prostitutes to Denmark. Some innocent girls are hoodwinked and bamboozled by so-called pimps and madams from Nigeria. The reasons why people travel from Africa to prostitute in cold Europe are other topic of discussion! It is not a hidden fact that some people capitalize on some of the girls’ background for their own selfish financial interest. Human trafficking is a breach of law and the police are working to unravel the mystery of illegal and legal immigrants’ inflow involved in illicit street prostitution.

It is melancholic that these few impudent girls distort fact about our women. Some readers of this article might wonder why the hullabaloo about sometime already in public domain. The fact is this, daily increment of Nigerian street prostitutes has raised alarm in Denmark: politicians are busy debating on it while media is writing and running documentary programmes on it. To me, it is appalling, and obviously many of us having Nigerian background living in Denmark would be concerned – especially when you are confronted with Danish mainstream of Nigerians street prostitution – it’s uncomfortable and part of our challenges. In a civilized society, individual has rights or freedom to decide how to use his or her body. But when the act contravenes legal rules of a society, you’ll face the music. Street prostitution is illegal in Denmark period. And if that’s what they chose “prostitution”, why can't they play the game by its rule?

Based on empirical research, it is difficult for people to quit the trade. They are strongly convinced that there is nothing wrong with the trade when in it. Some of its repercussions are: depression, isolation, low self-esteem and worst scenario, deadly diseases.

I must establish here that, my aim in this article is not to discus mix blessings of prostitution as a profession – I leave that to the readers – but am convinced that our decent, educated hard working respected women will convince Danish authority never to generalize when confronted at Copenhagen airport or anywhere in Denmark. No matter what, we love Nigeria and keep hoping for the best for her.

I am sure there are reasonable jobs that can be taken up other than prostitution. Women forcing men to come crank them shows what desperation these women will undertake just to get a daily living.

very terrible indeed. i do think you should visit italy. it is a lovely european country. i love the way they make modern to blend with ancient without much destruction of the old. it is beautifull and the people are friendly too even though many dont speak english

The government, the girls involved as well as their parents shouldn't be blamed for such illicit act. The attitude of nigerians towards riches should be blamed. If these girls are tailors, they will be considered no body in our country and will even find it difficult to get husband. But if they come back home with dollars despite their profession, people will worship them. Nigerians pls change your attitude towards money and this bullshit will stop.

Prostitution in Italy is no longer the way it was 5-10 years back, Since the Left League Party started issuing Permit of stay to illegal foreigners which enable some decent and intelligent ones to go look for work. The number has reduced to 60% in the sense that there are still some habitual prostitutes among our sisters there who rent out their document to others to work while they stick to the job they know best. Apart from the business not being favourable to our sisters any more, since the Eastern Europeans has invaded and dominates the business with the connection of their home base Mafias which make things more difficult even for the Italian police to control. Also mass deportation back to Nigeria contributed alot in making Nigerian girls less in the market since they're the only Notorious black girls in the business. That also the reason why they're now heading to BLOODY COLD Denmark, Sweden and Norway even Spain. I think in the next 5-10 years they'll be off to Scandinavian countries only that their foot steps will still show forever in history.

The worst part of it is this particular issue is pointing hand to one particular TRIBE in Nigeria, If actually it's bad economic crises of the nation,  it supposed to be all tribes of Nigeria that should be involve in this game. I feel ashame seeing some beautiful sisters standing in the street at mid night shivering under-15° for sex trade.

Just sad, that even well-integrated nigerian girls, even students holding danish citizenship and otherwise furthering the african pride and spirit arranging african events in Denmark, may turn to this trade when short on money.
Seems like treason to the african cause.
