Over the weekend, I was privy to a Demon-Exorcism or Spiritual Deliverance at the house of my pious Christian neighbor clarified.

What was interesting is that for the first time, The only Muslim among 6 flats of Christian folks concurred with the other Christians on what was taking place before me. I was not aware that Muslims believed in demon-possession/removal.

A young girl (Housemaid) resumed at her employer's house and as I understand, needed to go through some purification process after having passed the compulsory Health tests. She was interviewed by a Man of God.. Who was the Pastor of my neighbour's Church. (I won't mention it here)

The pastor through the "Eyes of the Spirit" determined she was possessed of a "latent war demon" who's appointed duty is to work at a location until such a time when he/she will be called upon to execute some agreed script by his/her Demon taskmasters. I was totally in awe of the Pastor's depth of knowledge and experience about Demons and Demon-possession.

The reason I was called to this session apparently is that every tenant needs to know any new house-help getting hired so everyone is in agreement and there is no confusion as to the house-helps, Character, Spiritual and Mental stability. all this i sort of agreed with until the "Spiritual Deliverance" commenced.

To cut the story short, the girl probably no older than 15 was delivered of 5 specific spirits (Frustration, Poverty, Fornication, Stealing and Stubbornness) and one demon (War Demon) after almost 30 minutes of vomiting and spitting. As i learned; she will be taken to Church to rest as part of a recovery process to totally cleanse her of all remnants of the Devil's work.

As i am planning on hiring a house-help in the very near future. I am disturbed by what I saw and wanted to find out from our Religious experts on Demonology answers to the following:

1: How can you tell a person is possessed by specific Evil Spirits and Demons?

2: Are Spirits different from Demons?

3: Are Spirits and Demons limited by the Intellectual Maturity or Physical Disabilities of the person they possess? are demons as dumb as the people they possess

I may have my notions about demons but they are no where near the experience I had this weekend.

So people please help me understand.

I don't know where to begin.

It is difficult for me to believe that people are mad or psychologically or clinically insane and just keep it inside acting normal until a pastor shows up. So this is serious. Any help appreciated.

I already have an idea of the origins of demons but I need to know how they work and what they do and how to get rid of them. I might be possessed too without knowing.

We must of certainty look for a higher power and authority to tame and cast them out which Is d Word of God and d Spirit of d Lord.

Some demons are evil while some are good.The evil ones posesses while d good ones do not. U can be posessed if u engage in drug abuse. Demons enters their victim not to steal to kill or to destroy as some religious pple believe, d demons' motive is to experience what it feels to be a human being and to show d pple living on dis earth dat WE ARE NOT ALONE

I understand now that this so-called demon possession aint anything spectacular. They are mere psychological disturbance. Pastors don't know anything about it as they are always erroneously attributing it to the supernatural. They only get "clues" from the victim and then conclude that they are demon possessed. Then they hurl prayers on the victim, who also is "falsely" convicted that s/he is possessed. A kind of "placebo effect" takes over; making the victim behave in weird ways like vomitting and the likes.

NOTE: There might be some better scientific explanation I'm ignorant of at the moment.

Bottom line: demon possession is nonsense

Fair to say, your “pastor” merely traumatised a young and vulnerable 15 year old, further, a lot of this nonsense has become prevalent with the proliferation of hungry quarter-baked “pastors”. I can assure you, if the guy had delivered the poor miserable girl of the five demons he had claimed in your presence, the emanations would have been sufficient to shatter your spirit.

Demons have existed as lesser gods who were abandoned as a result of the worship of a supreme being. They exist in the empyrean. It is human vanity that makes people consider demons are simply waiting to pounce on unsuspecting people, nothing could be further from the truth. Why would a demon who exists as a free form wish to inhabit a disease ridden in-sufficiently-efficient human body ? would you for instance wish to inhabit a chicken ?

Demons can be invoked to inhabit a person, they can also be evoked to do your bidding, but that is beyond the scope of this post. My advice to you, leave well alone.

One thing is clear, the fact these demons are largely invisible complicates studies relating to their existence/behaviour. From my own experience, demons drink petrol. They love petrol. Hence the petrol scarcities.

@sarrasin Mind you I have no intention of confronting a demon nor a demon-possessed. everything I have learned since childhood tells you to steer clear. It seems demons in modern times have come as close to reality as the mallam selling provisions down the street. manifestations are so frequent these days. it gives one great concern.

When i moved to my rented apartment, a pastor had to come and do some cleansing because the previous tenant was a traditionalist of sorts. who knows what spirits he left behind. throughout my stay i have experienced odd happenings which i have ignored because it could be something else.

Now I am ready to get a house-help and this happens How can I tell normal behavior from demon-induced behavior the thought of having someone do evil stuff to my kid when i am not at home scares me dead. I just cannot wrap my head around this phenomenon which is why i am seeking help. Practical Help. most of the articles I have read sound like fantasy stories.

@joagbaje. i mention spirits cos i hear that some dead folks never get to go so they hang around people especially vulnerable minors. so are they demons too? I also learned that demons are as old as earth itself. they have knowledge and are very intelligent. how can one match such experience when confronted with a demon. from the looks of it, this young girl is an illiterate, how she is expected to wake up one morning and become a war demon is beyond me.

In my years of joining nairaland this is the dumbest post I have read. This is the bane of the problem. People pick up poor kids from the village and make them slaves in the name of being house helps. A so called Pastor looks at a 15 year old girl and concludes she has 5 demons, even goes ahead to name them. How idiotic can this be? This is why these kids are abused, the law does not protect them, they do all sort of terrible things to them in the name of excorcism! Nigerian lawyers must rise up and put a bill forward that would protect these kids.

Nigerians are so wicked. In more civilized climes, if you want to help a girl from the village, it is simple. Adopt her, or become her foster parent. If you want a nanny pay for one! Don't let someone be your slave in the exchange of food and shelter. This must stop!

If the pastor is so gifted in excosizing people, why don't he cast the demon of corruption plaguing Nigeria. Or the demons infested in Boko Haram. When he does that, I will be very convinced.

All right thinking Nigerians should condemn this post - muslims, christians, aethists and agnostics alike. This is despicable and reveals the brokeness in Nigeria.

Do you think a normal human not controlled by a demon will fleece away $20 billion and allow millions to live in hell on earth? Only demon controlled beings do that. All demons are spirits but not all spirits are demons.

There are 3 levels of demonic activities in man ( Note this categorisations are essential mine)
1. Demonic obsessions (or addictions) - irrational lure of very destructive habits. Have you had an irrational and destructive attraction to pornography, prostitution, drunkenness? Behaviours that you see yourself going back to even though you don't like it? It's not possession per se and might not require deliverance to break the habit. This can happen to anybody, be it christian or muslim, born again or not - as long as you yield yourself to the flesh, the devil knows how to suck you in through things that entice the flesh.

2. Demonic Opressions - there are people who are unwillingly under the influence of evil spirits who do diabolic things even though they have no control over what they do, the key word here is unwilling - sometimes they might not even know. Prostitutes who are into prostitution not because of money but because they just want to prostitute. It's a destructive spirit working in them.

3. Demonic possession - these are humans who have a pact with demons to cause evil. They are often initiated and more often than not, are aware of the spirits behind there deeds. They are very drstructive people who consciously delight in evil and seek to cause harm. Demons have almost full control of people like these. And a christian can't be involved at this level.


But above all these, there are some other sets of people in the world today, that are not just obsessed, oppressed or possessed of demons - these guys are the seeds of the devil. These people cannot be delivered by any known means because they are by their very nature the enemies of God. They are reprobates capable of the meanest form of evil. There conscience is dead and they have a god complex, they are representative of the devil himself - they exist in every plain of life, popular culture, governments and even in churches (yes churches). These are the true witches of which there is no deliverance, of which the bible says - suffer not to live.
They are the likes of cain (note- the bible says cain was of the evil one) who heard the voice of God warning him, yet still went ahead to kill Abel. Simon the sorcerer who saw the power of God, yet intended to buy it with money. Jesus said of Judas - have I not chosen you and yet one of use is a devil! he wasn't just possesed, Judas was a devil, he saw the works of Chris for 3 1/2 yrs but was totally unable to come to the knowledge of truth. They are the manifestation of the spirit of the antichrist already at work amongst us. But that is not our talk for today, let's focus on those under demonic operations who can still be delivered
