What happenes if an enrolee dies leaving behind children under 18? Also is any payment made to the family?

If a principal dies, he has no need for health insurance. His children's health insurance will be discontinued after about 6months.

No payment is made to the family. This is not life insurance/assurance

Yes, emergency case like you are sick, had an accident that needs urgent medical attention.

Health
Management
Organisation.
These organisation deals directly with NHIS and the patients (enrollees). They are the middle man organisation. To get to NHIS, you paSs through them. For NHIS to reach enrollees, they pass through the HMO.

What school are you in, maybe I could help find out the HMO that covers your school so you can reach them for more private talk.

was at FMC jalingo with terrible ear pain. They said thats not an emergency so there will be no services for me. My facility was about a hundred km away. The desk officer told me that emergency means

1. Brought in on stretcher
2. Involved in accident and unconscious
3. When one faints

any other condition isnt emergency.

Specialist hospital too refused to attend to me.

I think we have a long way to go as far as NHIS is concerned in this country.

Sorry about your ear but you brought the refusal on yourself.

When you chose A, you were aware that B and C were nearer to you but you chose A. A has been paid in full to cater for you but you want to waltz into B or C and get attention. Does it sound nice in your ears?

If you want B or C change to them. When outside the state or in an emergency, any NHIS hospital will care for you.

You have two options. Actually, three.

Change it online by yourself. Visit www.nhisonline.com.ng

Visit any NHIS office and fill a form

Fill a form with your HMO

No fees paid. It's officially free.

It will take about 6months to be processed if you fill forms in any of the offices (HMO or NHIS)

It will be changed instantly and you can use your printout immediately if you change online

Thanks so much of the info so its better for me to kuku change it online since its faster and easier God bless u, so i can still change inter state

youre being unnecessarily harsh and wrongfully judgemental man. I'm on transfer. What? It hurts man. You guys are all the same. Unfriendly, harsh, impatient... Brought it upon myself? So it was my making to have been posted to one place and later be transferred therefrom. The NHIS Enriches some individuals in the name of serving nigerians. What! Thats not a better way of responding man.
Very rude manner of responding.

Did you read the part you quoted where I said if you were outside the state you must be cared for? Abi you just wanted to get angry?

did you read that? Very insultive. Very rude. You should be reasonable enough to know i chose A because it was the nearest and you wouldnt expect that I carry along A to my new destination. "Abi you just deliberately chose to be rude?"

Tankoy, did you read this part in bold? And of course you didn't see me say "sorry about your ear". You were just too excited to scream blue murder.

I just took a cursory look at your profile, I see you are an angry man. Everybody is rude to you. Offline and online. I can only imagine what life for you is like.

I am so sorry I responded to you. I am more upset I got fooled by you thinking I was being of help. I promise, I will try and avoid you henceforth.

I hope you get well soon and that's me being very sincere.

@mr gboliwe.. pls i need to know if nhis would cover surgery such as fibroid or ceasarian. secondly, my wife told me its only abt 3 months for one to be registered. Finally, she insists on using a teaching hospital quite far from our house, if u are familiar with osun area. we stay in osogbo but she prefers ile ife hospital. i insisted on the one at osogbo but she cited strike action as the reason why osogbo may not be viable. now, i wanna ask, should there be strike action, can she change to ile ife? thanks

Thanks for your analysis of me online and ofline. Hope im d first ever to complain of being rejected elsewhere. Im sure if you are NHIS staff, someday, as careful as you are to avoid Tankoy, you will in your painful moment get more frustrated than I have been. When the NHIS get probed... And the anti corrution satellite beems on you as an individual...

If the service of NHIS wasnt good enough to bring relief, I wonder how your wishes would.

I'm not surprised, online or offline, one gets the same response from you people, so sad.

In case you never heard, Desk officers have been thoroughly beaten by those whose lives 'you can imagine' both online and offline to be good.

Hello Jayboi, yes NHIS cover fibroid and CS surgeries.

I don't understand what you mean by "only 3 months to register"

No I am not familiar with Osun state but in case of a strike, she would be referred to another NHIS Hospital, usually, a private facility that isn't on strike. NHIS takes care of these

Please can an enrollee undergo Fibroid surgery at an NHIS certified Hospital that is not her main health care provider? Can she be referred for such? How can she go about it if possible? Thank you
Re: Nhis(national Health Insurance Scheme) by evido78: 6:15pm On Oct 30, 2016
Thanks Mr Gboliwe for taking time to answer almost all questions thrown at you. I am a Federal government worker and an enrolee under scheme with my wife and a kid as dependants. I have gone through NHIS website but there is no where treatments and/or drugs that covered or not covered by the scheme are listed.
Are fertility treatments covered by NHIS? Please give a list or referral of the treatments and that are covered and those not covered.

Thank you.

Fertility treatments are not covered under our NHIS.

I have poor network now and can't get into the site. When I do, I'll give you a link

Yes she can be referred. Yes she can have it elsewhere aside her HCP but NHIS will want to know why she is being referred. Why she is using another HCP. If her reasons are genuine, she's good.

There are guidelines in using NHIS just work within the limits. You'll be fine

My mother have used the Fohow products several times for her fibroid until it became difficult to buy the product due to its cost. But there is an all-natural product that we later bought for about N14,000 that really works magic after taking just two bottles of it, according to the scan result. She even later started recommending it to other fibroid patients she knew from the hospitals where she used to go for her treatment. Just call Mr Emmanuel at 08055668026.

Great thread.

Can you update us in what the annual costs are for individuals and families?

I really think the HMOs should be taken out of the equation because they don't want you to join NHiS - they just want to sell their own packages and still insist it is for civil servants.

Upmanagers, gboliwe
Someone already has 4 children enrolled with NHIS. When she was pregnant with them she wasn't an enrollee so she paid for her antenatal care. Thereafter she got a job with govt agency and became an enrollee so also her 4 children. Now she's pregnant, is she entitled to antenatal care under NHIS considering she has never enjoyed the service under NHIS. Thank you

Lol quite dicey. If this comes to my desk, I will authorise a go ahead considering that it's the first NHIS.

But you know you can't register the new baby abi?

Ok thanks for your prompt response.

Now for my own, my son's name was misspelt. When I went to do addition for my 3rd baby, I complained and I was given a form to fill. Now my baby's name is out but the correction for my older son wasn't effected. Please how do I go about this.
Thank you so much for your time.

Sorry about the stress your HMO is making you pass through. If you have filled a form and your name is yet to be out but your other colleagues'have theirs, it's from your HMO.

Please, go back to them, fill another form give me the number of that form (see attached form for clarity), and your ministry. Send via mail, I can at least see its progress.

Do this very soon, another list will be out by July, hopefully, yours will be part of it.

@ Upmanager and Gboliwe, thanks guys for all your efforts and time.
At last my name came out last October but not until I went to NHIS head office Abuja for direct capturing in September.

Please, does NHIS covers hepatitis treatments/drugs?
