I was watching AIT 7PM news a few minutes ago and it was announced that the HND/BSc dichotomy is now a case of judicial battle.

I wonder what will come out of this.

i read it too.........i hope they do something about it . HND cannot forever remain second to degree.....they have to be equal....yeah!.....they most be equal.

School is School whether profs or no profs. After all, polytechnic students stay longer in school.

What about the standard... Then they will have to stop accepting remnants and candidates with abysmally Low scores into the polytechnics .

true, Auchi poly was ranked 2nd best institution in Nigeria last year and if am not mistaken it was d 12 best institution in Africa and also the best poly in Africa follow by Namibia poly. And if u are talking abt ranking, unilag is no where near top cuz schools like OAU, uniben, Auchi, Unilorin, UNN, UI,AAU are ranked above unilag

When i heard and saw the way HND certificate holders were harrassed all in a bid to participate in WAEC marking or WAEC examiners, that was when i knew that they are really on a long thing. May God help una.

Universities and polytechnics are 2 different kinda institutions. With 2 different training modules, Awarding 2 different kind of certificates to 2 different kind of graduates for satisfaction of 2 different kind of Job Market.

The truth is that, Polytechnics is the pinnacle of Technical education in Nigeria.

All these brouhaha is due to the facts that there are no job opportunities. little or no companies and firms to absorb the teeming number of graduates from both the universities and polytechnic. Creating a fierce competition for the little employment opportunities out there.

In the Oil and Gas industry, HND holders are preferred on the Rigs.

Jamb cutoff mark can never be used to judge but employer of labour should engage both degree holder in a battle of intellect.

At least, we have people that used expo to score 260 in jamb and entered University with runse.
And some brilliant student with 240 in jamb settled for Polytechnic because they don't have money for University runse i.e they got admitted to poly easily.

#Enough said.

To me, degree doesn't really matter if you have connection. Three of my cousin that studied in YABATECH are working in a big company while some University graduate are busy roaming the street.

HND cert can not be parallel with degree becuase goverment made it so, bt in reality HND cert is far better than degree. A PTI graduate is more respected accepted and honor than any any universities graduate in Nigeria.

with d 200 u got,a university student uses the same textbook as a polytechnic student,or do think the professors make use of textbooks from heaven?Nigerians are just too myopic,they believe too much in qualifications,I have seen a final year engineering student in a university who doesn't understand properly the dynamics of calculus! Smiles

Wa gbayii.......imagine, those universities student feel they are more qualified than us, but no, they ain't anywhere near us. We are better off academically, its just the way the FG treats the polythecnics that made the gap so obvious. A 300L student can't even define Kirchoff's law talkless of solving the equations.
