Are The Ivorian Golden Generation Players Overated Or Unlucky? by Samunique(m): 11:57am On Jul 06, 2014
For over a decade, CIV has produced most of the continent finest players like, Drogba, the Toure brothers, Gevinho, kaolou, Zakora, Wilfred Bony and the likes that formed their so called golden generation's team.

This team has been tipped several times by the football pundits to rule the continent giving the array of stars in the team but has failed to do so up till date.
Even in the ongoing WC where they had a relatively easy group to sail through they could not do it to the surprise of many football followers.

So this is my question to all NL,
ARE THEY OVERATED ALL THIS WHILE BY PEOPLE OR THEY ARE JUST UNLUCKY NOT TO HAVE HAD SOMETHING TO SHOW FOR THEIR GENERATION as a silver wear, though they qualified for WC on three occasions and have not been able to make it pass the group stages.

Too much Ego n the team no team work.

When Ngeria had the star studded team what did we win? Nothing. But because we now have unknown players willng to play for one another and listen to the manager,we won the nations cup and revived the belief in Ngerians in the team.

As Individuals they are not overhyped bt as a team dey have not been so lucky. Oyibo Man no go tell me say him no sabi Drogba, Kolo, Yaya, Tizzie d old goal keeper b4 barry, Zakora, and d rest members of the team. Gervinho dem and even Tiote are knwn bt na as Elephants of Ivory coast dem no great.morinho or Van gaal and Sir alex fit carry dem win world cup with dia talent and experience bt unfortunately since harry mitchel no fit do am no oda coach hd done well with dem.

1. They are unlucky

2. They are like the English national team, good individually as players but poor collectively as a team.

I believe they were unfortunate to have coaches who knew next to nothing about tactics and how to maximize on their potentials.

...Also, I think the star-studded nature of their team ended up breeding arrogance amongst them; which eventually played out in their final match against Greece, where every player was trying to shine individually to the detriment of their team.
The "Na me score dat goal" syndrome.

Basic problem with African football....

We just select a few good players, get a ''good'' foreign or local coach to polish them up in six weeks, go and ''do well'' in some tournaments, and fool ourselves that we are a footballing power.

Meanwhile, we do noting about training young players, training more football coaches, retraining the existing coaches, improving facilites, and improving the tactical awareness of our individual players (That is why we get beaten on a regular basis by Germany et al....not because the Germans are superb but because the Germans are more tactically aware.).

We should rebuild our football from the sticks upwards....and be like Belgium.....focusing on improving quality rather than winning.

Stephen Keshi should head Straightight there as the South Africans don't seem pArticuLarly exited about his coaching their national team any longer .

Their players are certainly not overrated,we av seen what dey can do in their respective clubsides.
I think they were just not committed enough.
And maybe they need a better handler.

Individual play kills a team and that's what they are doing. They are not unlucky, and neither are they overated.
