One of the plants you will prefer around your home as an aesthetic plant or a beginners choice in farming business is banana. This plant which originated from Asia is had since turned to a world–wide plant and suits tropical climates. From Lagos to Calabar or Dansaddau in Zamfara to Bonny Island in River State, you can cultivate banana.

TYPES OF CULTIVARS AVAILABLE

Cavendish(nice medium height) recommended
Blue java(locally called banana panya {Español},less sugar, very tall tree, out-dated)not recommended
Dwarf Cavendish (the dwarf banana with sturdy trunk)not recommended
Eastern African highland banana(medium height ,most available, takes longer to fruit )not recommended
Grand Nain (the plant of choice for commercial growers, medium height ,long, good and attractive fingers, higher disease resistance )highly recommended
Saba Banana also called Cameroonian banana (seen as banana and plantain at the same time, very tall less sugar, quick self-multiplication, good for many uses)

SOIL REQUIREMENT
Sandy-loam + optimum moisture
Planting
Dig a small hole (30 centimetre deep)
Fill half of the hole with manure-mixed sand
Place the sucker
Cover up with surrounding loam soil
Water twice a month for just one month during dry season
CARE
Cut off dead leaves always
Add manure to the base every 2 months or spray with liquid fertilizer twice a month
