The German Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Markus Ederer, who spoke at a meeting in Abuja on Thursday, described the incessant destruction of lives and property by the Boko Haram sect mostly in Nigeria’s northeast as worrisome.

He said the two countries must do more to ease the
security situation in Nigeria as Boko Haram had continue to commit crimes with unbelievable cruelty.

Dr Ederer stated that improved co-operation in the
area of counter-terrorism, between the countries was an obligation in the expression of solidarity as the development of Nigeria was overall positive.

“Germany is very well aware that the development in Nigeria is overall positive as we recognise the rapid economic development,” Dr. Ederer said.

The Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs, Ambassador Martins Uhomoibhi, solicited the assistance of the Germany government in ensuring a
free and fair election in 2015.

The Nigerian economy, over the last five years, has continue to growth at a seven per cent rate, one of the most encouraging in the African continent and around the world.
