Other health workers want to be collecting the same amount of Money as doctors. Whereas, it's not so in other parts of the world. See how it is outside the country. I don't think it should be different here. 5 Likes

You forgot that these are salaries of specialist Doctors(consultants) with over 12yrs of education and average of $300k in student loan (for US Drs) as compared to the salaries of an entry level nurse ( 4yrs degree and less than $50k student loanfor US graduates)). You fail to realize that in US, resident Drs earn an average of $45k, quite below the salary of the least hospital worker. So when they say Drs aern 200k, know that they are talking about consultants, and if you wanna compare with nurses, talk about nurse practitioners where some specialist nurse practitioners earn more than some specialist Drs e.g Anaesthetic nurses (CRNA) earn more than family physicians. Our Drs want to reap where they did not sow. Besides, nobody is asking to earn same salary as Drs. That has never been the issue phantom: they deny it. they say they dont want to earn the same with doctors BUT they also ask we should be put together on one salary scale. 106 Likes 1 Share |

but agree that those are the salaries of consultants that you are comparing to an entry level nurse. That resident doctors earn as little as 45k in US unlike here in Nigeria that they want to earn more than their employers. That it takes them years to pay the student loan + interest. That they also pay heavy malpractice insurance unlike nurses. So all those are considered when issues about salaries are handled in US. here, Drs go to school wnd pay same fee with others, yet they want to earn like US Drs . phantom: after they pay back their student loans, do their salaries decrease? 31 Likes |

tell me where a Dr has been sued. also tell me you have not seen cases where nurses are sued. What nigerian Drs do is shift blame to others like nurses. how many times have they actually taken responsibility for their actions without blaming the nurses? They are very good at covering up their atrocities and havig the CMD protect them phantom: but its the doctor that still gets sued in Nigeria.not the nurse.not the pharmacist. 41 Likes |

Consultants are paid fairly well compared to other health workers in Nigeria. that is the main reason why NMA does not want consultancy status for others. Unless you are saying that they deserve to be paid like US Drs. If you agree with that of the resident Drs, then let's introduce that into nigeria. Imagine resident Drs that are still under training going on strike. Only in Nigeria. phantom: consultants are paid heavily in the US but what of their colleagues here. 20 Likes |

In US, all Drs specialize. Even the family physician (who are primary healthcare providers) is still an area of specialty. they still undergo residency You are not a fully qualified Dr until you are matched and done your residency which makes you a specialist! silentdon: 16 Likes |

they are under training and will reap the fruit of their labour after training. That is why they are paid specialist allowance. The same I can suffer to go back to school for PhD because I know I will reap the fruit of my labour after that. Resident Drs here in US work like slaves and earn peanut, because they know very well that after that, they will reap the fruit of their labour. But Nigerian Drs want to start enjoying even while still in school. mtcheeewww Drs in US work more than 60hrs a week. Those in residency work as high as 80hrs a week. Compare that to 40hrs a week nurses work. Then, tell me the time the have to enjoy their money? that only happens when they retire. For more info on Drs in US, you can join their online forum (SDN.)and see their rants phantom: still under training but you forget these are already doctors who are specializing.why shouldn't they be paid and why shouldn't they go on strike? who do you think is the engine room of teaching hospitals. consultants no. its resident doctors who work their a** off. even in the US, its residents. attending physicians are the big boys.they work less and earn more 35 Likes |

It's only a fool that converts Nigeria currency to Dollars. Have you forgotten that we have different economy? You went to the university almost free, can you also compare your school fees to theirs? You are not asking for something special, but allow others to grow too in their chosen field. By the way, you guys started this whole thing by comparing your salaries to other health workers. If you face your work and profession and leave others alone, then we won't be having this conversation. phantom: I am a snr registrar in radiology.my salary is barely $1500/month. my junior colleagues in the US earn about >$5000/ month.even if government adjusts the scale like we are asking, I still wouldn't earn up to $2000/mth. so what is the heaven and earth we are asking for? @ Prettyprettywow, that is a brilliant analysis as it is. SDN where their rants makes me feel pity for them, that by the time they will start enjoying, their mate in other discipline are preparing for retirement...while they will be weighed down by student loans. prettyprettywow: but agree that those are the salaries of consultants that you are comparing to an entry level nurse. That resident doctors earn as little as 45k in US unlike here in Nigeria that they want to earn more than their employers. That it takes them years to pay the student loan + interest. That they also pay heavy malpractice insurance unlike nurses. So all those are considered when issues about salaries are handled in US. here, Drs go to school wnd pay same fee with others, yet they want to earn like US Drs .I am here again. Let's debate this. I have to do some research. But I am also aware that in some school of nursing (in Nigeria), student nurses are paid whereas medical students are not. I disagree with you completely. Anytime they are taking a survey, they take a survey of people in similar group. There is no way they will compare salary of a medical consultant to that of an entry nurse. To make headway in this argument we must decide to use USA as our case study and then look at how much they pay specialist nurses and specialist doctors, entry level nurse and entry level doctor (GP or medical officer). Resident doctors are in school I guess, so we can only compare them to those in school of nursing. 10 Likes |
