Just like some computer keyboards havea bump on the F and J so they know where to put their index fingers, to line the rest of them up to type.

Another dumb azz question, it's simply called 'the home key' just like 'f' and 'j' on your PC..

The dot on the 5 key on the numeric cluster is the home key for the middle finger.

Folks (blind or not) use that for keying in numeric entries without having to look at the keyboard.

when the middle finger is properly aligned, it is used to strike the 2, 5, 8 keys, while the index finger strikes the 1, 4, & 7 keys, etc.

This minimizes hand movement and is very fast when you have trained yourself.

This is similar to the F and J keys on the alphabetic part of the keyboard, those are the home keys for the index fingers for touch typists, and they have similar raised dots on them.

There exist specialized mechanical devices for the purpose, that look something like little typewriters, only with just a handful of keys.

Touchscreens have one other feature though–they’re smart. The team realized that they didn’t have to make keys in a set location that the user had to find; the user could simply set his fingers down, and the keys could orient themselves accordingly. Each time the user lifts all his fingers off the screen and sets them down again, the keyboard would adjust to the fingers’ new location.

the keyboard that starts with A and goes all the
way across. The idea behind the home row is that
each finger remains in light contact with a
particular key there when it is not typing in order
to keep "grounded", providing a reference point
