Before I write anything on sheep farming. I will conclude the remaining write up on goat farming. Vaccination in goats and major goat disease. Most traditional small holder goat farmers do not care about vaccinations in goats and treatment of goats when sick. As an aspiring goat farmer there are certain things you will need to know and prepare for. The most common disease infestation is ecto parasites (lice, ticks, ring worm etc) control methods include dipping in water tanks and spraying at interval with suitable chemical.(consult a vet for professional advice) endo parasites,(round worm ,tape worms, flukes, protozoa) control method include regular de worming at intervals Respiratory disease (pneumonia). It is very important to know how to mange and control all this disease issues. If these diseases are not effectively controlled, it can affect the growth rate and productivity of your goats (even death) vaccinations are meant to prevent deadly viruses and bacteria , most common deadly disease virus include paste des petite ruminant (ppr) , a very deadly disease that kills within one week and mortality rate is 90 % .(it is epidemic in Nigeria) I will advice you consult a vet doctor for professional help and guide there are other recommended vaccines for ruminant I would not want to mention now. for those asking for my contact here is my mail talk2fanen@gmail.com 6 Likes 1 Share |

ENHANCE GOATS, SHEEP PRODUCTION IN IMO The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has made known its resolve to empower sheep and goats farmers in Imo State to improve animal production for local consumption and export. The Imo Director of the ministry and coordinator, Agricultural Transformation Agenda (ATA), Mr Clement Iwunze, made the resolve known during a one-day sensitisation workshop organised for goats and sheep farmers in collaboration with the Imo State Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources. He said the federal government was poised to provide fattening feeds, de-wormers, salts and insecticides to farmers who are already in the business of goats, rams and sheep rearing. He said the programme was piloted in Gombe and five other states and the redemption was 100 percent, adding that 30 states were selected for the programme. He noted that each farmer was expected to fatten 10 rams or goats for Sallah or Christmas as the idea was to introduce farmers to commercial ruminant finishing feeds, which is a necessary healthcare for improved productivity. He said benefiting farmers would be entitled to four bags of 25 kilogrammes of finished ruminant feed each, 10 millilitres of Acarricides, 100 millilitres of de-wormer (10 bolus), salt with each attracting 50 percent subsidy. He said the programme was targeted at increasing meat output from current 440,109 metric tonnes to 585,785 metric tonnes as well as increase animal population from 92.043 million to 119.66 million, thereby generating over 450,000 jobs in the country. Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Mr Frank Ibezim, while declaring the workshop open urged the farmers to be proud of their profession, assuring that arrangements were made for the farmers to work in conjunction with the agric extension workers in the state in a programmed tagged the Imo Agric Core Scheme. 1 Like |

NIGERIA TO INCREASE MILK PRODUCTION BY 2000 LITRES PER DAY 04 September 2014 05:00 Written by Vincent Nigerian milk production which per lactation cow currently falls below 500 litres per day will be increased to 2000 litres per day. This would be achieved by upgrading the milk production level of the indigenous cows through artificial insemination with high productivity semen and feed supplement. The director, Federal Department of Animal Production and Husbandry Services, stated this during the capacity building for Dairy Value Chain Subject Matter Specialists (SMSs) in 11 states in Nigeria at Ramat Hotels, New Nyanya, Nasarawa State. Represented by Alhaji Adeola, a deputy director in the department, he maintained that the training seeks to equip the officers of the 11 states and the value chain team with the techniques of artificial insemination and assessment at farm level, Bovine reproduction and health in dairy animals and techniques for assessment of animal health and production parameters. The Desk Officer of Dairy Value Chain, Mr. Ezenwa Nwakonobi, while giving the overview of the dairy value chain, said the objectives include creation of structural shift in the dairy industry in Nigeria. Nwakonobi said the value chain, which includes linking private sector processors to domestic milk supplies, increased national milk output from 469,000MT to 1.1 million MT by organising small holder milk producer’s cooperatives clustered around milk processors. He said the 2014 GES roll-out for dairy value chain begins by 24 November, 2014 in all the 11 states for 2,200 farmers. 4,400 animals were targeted; 300kg of feed and 10kg of salt lick will be redeemed per farmer for N11, 200 at 50% |

A farmer's worst nightmare is that he cannot make profit from quick turnovers as a result of low or poor sales. This has been a continuous problem that is why Farmbaskit LTD was created, to help farmers market their products while they sleep..
