But the OP specifically mentioned that it's the generator for the wards that have been cut off.

Do you keep blood in the wards? Do the wards double as mortuaries?
Do you know if they have any babies in incubators right now?

Ignoramus.

This is the problem with Nigerians. You have said it all. I read with disbelief the responses of so men people non this thread who probably just read the topic and gave an auto response based on the side of the line they are standing on.

The post clearly said the wards.

Jummymine: the poster is a joker. i do not know whether he has ever been in within the four walls of a hospital.
in fact, it is the only meaningful thing for the guy to do.
its thensame over here in ife. Except for a very very few pts i see, like a matron who is vey sick that we are helpin specially by treating, and the very long stayers like the ortho pts whom we do not discharge, yhe wards are empty. the nurses, lab guys and the rest are just sitiing down doing nothing.
to continue wasting money on diesel is mere foolishness. the wis thing to do is to use only he nepa light.
mind you, same happens when johesu, which includes everybody except the doctors, goes on strike.
it is only when individual worker groups , like the pharmacists, physios, lab guys etc go on strike, that no one misses them. work just continues as near normal. that is why you have a union like johesu msde up of sooo many strange bedfellows.

So are you saying that there are no patients who need electricity in the hospital? Are you a medical doctor or a native doctor? Seriously unless it's a native doctor's hut I would imagine that there are equipment being used that require power. Are you guys still sending bills to the patients that are so sick and have to stay in that hospital or are you going to write off their bill since you guys purposely denied them access to electrical power. I can't even imagine the mediocre medical services these poor patients are getting.

The only things i can decipher from this thread are:

1. Johesu services are peripheral, so much that they can't generate enough profit to keep the hospital running, this is more reason why the FG should privatize the hospital, i am sure that a profit driven enterpreneur can easily see where the money in the hospital is generated from, and give everybody his due.

2. Johesu are becoming desperate, spreading fake news without any source, simply to prey on the emotions of the gullible Nigerians, they have a well oiled propaganda machine, kudos to them, but propaganda doesn't win battles, they only buy you people sympathy, guns and weapons win wars, and they seem to be in the hands of the Doctors.

3. NMA has poor media reach, anybody that is responsible for their public relations should be sacked, he isn't doing a good job. If they keep puting up such a poor media show as they are currently doing, johesu would soon or later turn the gullible Nigerians against them.

drered: So apparently, members of NMA came to a harsh realisation that the government isn't all jitters cuz they on strike and now they are taking more drastic measures. Thought doctors pride themselves that they leave with only their brain and experience during strike actions unlike JOHESU that locks up everywhere? What ever happened?

Lovely post,U finally Making sense...happy fr u.

my guy dont make urself a joke here. In 400L, the med student studies pathology encompassing the four core sub-divisions where we're taught virtually all the practical procedures done in the labs(ofcus except for the more technical ones in histopathology which are done by resident docs). So the average doctor is capable of working in the lab and even doing better cos we'd work with the pathologic basis of disease at the back of our mind.

Big lie..... big fat lie....

You can never compare the trained eye of an experienced medical laboratory scientist to that of physician.

For crying out loud, there is specialisation within laboratory science. For instance, there is Microbiology and Parasitology... Now there is an area. There are different departments of labs in one hospital, each headed by Chief Scienctist specializing in the area.

So you mean to tell me you physicians, just because you're doctors know everything combined, which even a lab scientist cannot claim.

You doctors are seriously sick.....

I pulled up the budget for a relatively small hospital in King County, Washington. Annual budget (in 2012!) came to 144.6 million US dollars. That's nearly 24 billion Naira. And that was two years ago. And those guys do not even generate their own power.

You think 4.6 billion naira would make a hospital 'one of the best in the world'? BWAHAHAAHHAHAHAHA!

Well, u should have looked in2 the operations of each b4 u conclude, with that money being collected by a hospital in nigeria, dat still doesn't stop govt influence, the govt(FG) still buys the equipment and pays salary not to talk of grants from PTDF and co.

Meanwhile, dese hospitals ure talking abroad runs on its own budget.

Just like universities, where each university in US runs on its own budget being supplied by their govt, the also decides and pay salaries, that is y a professor in Harvard may earn more than a professor in New York. And also Harvard budget is way more high than any other university in the US. Am sure u know such can happen in nigeria, govt go build hostel, lecture room, pay salary, by chair, even buy chalk.

Oops next time you want to stroke your ego write English properly. You will soon say it's not your mother tongue but to gain admission into a university you require at least a pass in English. The grammar in the post I first quoted would be a disgrace if written by a primary 6 pupil.

Is it economically sensible to be supplying electricity to empty wards or laboratories that are not working?I am sure you know how much a litre of diesel cost.
The OP is a smart kid and he has being trying hard to turn the nairaland's mind against the doctors,if you doubt my assertion, take a trip through his write ups.My advise is for all to take it cool with each other,we are in the sector together and we will continue to need eachother.
Bros no vex, is d physiotherapy department also empty? Don't dey use electricity dere? D labs dat u said its empty, don't dey hav some reagents, specimen etc stored in d fridge dat would be used @ a later date? Wat about d blood bank, won't all d blood in d refrigerator go bad as a result of dis action?

Bros I agree wit ur number 1 suggestion 100%, @ least if it is implemented,
1. U will start paying 4 residency n not d other way round.
2. No more ghost workers in d hospital, d hospitals will be employing based on merit and to d full capacity of d hospital.
3. CMDs will be ment to give proper accounts on d money dey were giving to run d hospital and also make profit too.
4. Consultants will now be going on ward rounds everyday n not once a week.
5. Everybody will face dere work n produce gud results else u get sacked unlike d civil services were sacking someone is a taboo.
6. Finally no more strikes, if u don't like d terms n conditions of services in d hospital, u pack ur bag n go.

We've gone through this arguments before and we've even tested the knowledge of the "all-knowing-physicians" here, they failed. Mr, physicians know nothing about methodology, proceedure and technical management of the lab. I've proved it here. Med lab does not begin and end with pcv.

A physician can NEVER be well grounded in the METHODOLOGY, TECHNOLOGY and SCIENTIFIC intricacies and work-ability of a medical laboratory than the SCIENTIST. You were not trained for that.

Infact Medical Laboratory management is a 3 credit load course in the 5+1 year B.MLS University curriculum. It is not in the M.B.B.S curriculum. Stick to your clinical duties and there will be peace.

Anybody that uses that kind of language because someone said something they don't like online is from the gutter and obviously had no home training. I was aware when I signed onto naira land that it was like going to the market, you cannot choose whom you interact with even mad men may move around dressed like the sane. So use the gutter language that you are used to, it just shows your background and orientation.
