Elections And The Politics Of Setting Up Radio Stations In Osun State. by Omimah: 8:06pm On Jul 21, 2014
As the 2007 governorship election in Osun State drew nearer, the presence of a radio station was noticed in the airwaves. This station which sensitized supporters of the AC candidate, Rauf Aregbesola operated without anybody knowing its location. Much was however not heard of it when Aregbesola lost to the incumbent, Olagunsoye Oyinlola of the PDP. In 2010 when the Court of Appeal declared Rauf Aregbesola winner, this station came up again, operating under the frequency modulated band 103.1. The station, Unique FM located in Ilesha is believed to be owned by Governor Rauf Aregbesola.
Recently, the airwaves noticed the presence of a new radio station operating under the frequency modulated band on 101.5. The station, Crown FM is believed to be owned by the PDP governorship flag bearer, Iyiola Omisore. It operates from Ile-Ife. Earlier this month, there were reports that supporters of both PDP and APC maimed those listening to the Unique FM and Crown FM respectively.
What is the politics behind the idea of the setting up of these radio station? Isn't it high time the NCC looked into this?

let them continue to dominate the air waves with their vain propaganda. It happened in Ondo state then, yet the people's choice as at then still won the election. It's whom the people choose that will win the election come August. Ekiti proved this recently, upon the rice sharing strategy.
