THE PYRATES: are found by Nobel laureate, proff Wole Soyinka, the oldest of the secret cults on campuses. This is because their entry requirements are usually very stringent and they select on merit. However, the profile of the pyrates is very high. They are said to be, on the whole "non-violent lovers". They are regarded as highly influential because, being the very first fraternity they dominate the ranks of university administrators, professors and other lecturers, society big-wings and top military and police officers who were members as students.
The pyrates, also known as the national association of seadogs (NAS) is the only registered fraternity and boasts of well known personalities who have taken pains to explain the difference between the NAS and the splinter groups. As a matter of fact, the NAS clams it has demobilised it's campus arms and that whoever still claims to be a pyrate is only masquerading. Student members are only registered outside and they also stay off campus, they are regarded as the most disciplined, highly articulate and organized. According to sources, they will rather take you up on paper (through campus publications) or pull strings to get you suspended or expelled from campus rather than resort to violence.
