Before rushing to open his useless mouth on the floor, did Gbjabiamila study the conditions of repayment? Is he privy to the interests rate and repayment scheldule?

FG is not approaching UBA at 24% lending rate.

The loan may even attract zero interest and maybe attached to procuring Military hardware from the country lending us the money.

If China was the lender, the conditions may necessitate that we repay zero interest over say 5 years on the condition we buy from china.
Giving that we are still at the spear throwing era with respect to our local defense industry then this is a good deal.

Gbjabiamila should suggest Cocoa rather than oil. Useless parasite

kinguwem: The Hon. Member may be patriotic but is ignorant about security issues. Nigeria is at war with insurgents/terrorists. Military equipment are expensive. Already lives have been lost. Does he want more lives to be lost because of $1 billion. The legislature does oversight functions, he should tell us how previous defence budgets were spent.

You mean Nigeria does not have up to $1bn in its treasury, they have to go all out and borrow? They budget 1 trillion naira a year to fight this terrorism, what have they achieved with it so far? So the only way forward is by plunging the country into further debt right? Even if you're a pdp supporter, does it mean you must always endorse their actions?

It doesnt work like that.

The money in the treasury is not the same as petty cash which can be withdrawn at any short notice. The treasury reserve helps to back our paper currency. Without any money in the treasury no country will do business with us. Th treasury fund in the form of the external reserve and the excess crude account helpS to buoy our currency.

This government gives a new meaning to the word 'ILLITERATE' in the Oxford English Dictionary. From Facebook to Twitter, nairaland and all over the net the GEJites continue to redefine this word and carry its meaning to new heights. And they display this illiteracy with brash arrogance. I suggest reasonable Nigerians go on sabbatical till 2019 and come back to fix the whole mess they would have created.

Most reasonable posters have indeed 'gone on sabbatical' on Nairaland. This is why the m0r0nic rants of the illiterate Jonathanians resonate so loudly of late on this forum.

The foolishness on this thread is unprecedented even for nairaland Politics section standards

Just as the federal budget makes provisions for expenditure either in the form of recurrent or capital so is the budget implemented to ensure savings either in the local domestic market or oversees. The latter obligatory responsibility are necessitated in order to ensure that you can have a budget the coming here.

The boko haram insurgencies requires different strategy involving investment in hi-tech hardware. This is an extra-budgetary obligation that was not captured in this years budget. Do you expect the FG to dip into other sectors to fund the war on terror? Our external reserves are very low as it stands. A country like Nigeria (the largest economy in Africa) ought to have an external reserve 10 times what we have shored up.
To further dip into the piggy bank will adversely affect the value of the Naira and hence lead to currency devaluation and severe inflation. This is not an option.

The best option is to shop for a loan facility that will be flexible and cheap which will not affect our economy down the line. Mind you the FG will not be approaching UBA or Zenith with their cut throat lending rates but international banks or countries like China or Russia. The loan could at worst be a single digit on the high side or be zero percent.

For Gbajabiamila to open his illiterate trap to suggest we use ND oil is the height of stupidity. Given that oil price can never crash if we trade our oil for cash in advance you can bet that it will be far lower than what is being sold on the international market now and anytime in the future.

All you APC ROACHES should take your greasy hands off ND oil. If Nigeria disintegrates come 2015 it is the ND that will be given the bill to pay for a war caused by useless senseless abokis desperate for power and oil loot.

Jonathan continues to marvel me, does he want to tell us that we don't have ordinary 1 bill dollars Hmmm we re finished in this country as our leaders are all lacking vision. they always act like pple from another planet. my life is worth more than $1bn

see nigerians becoming refugees in their own country n pple defy complain abt money
. Am at loss when people come with this type of arguement. What type of 'refuge' is worst than mortgageing the life of all Nigerians through debts. And who is benefiting from this insurgency. Pls let's understand the points raised by this Gbaja before commenting. So much has been alotted to defence and we are not seeing on ground, is it this 1billion$ they will use well. If they must do it, physical cash should not be used. The trade by barter option is beter, let's see how they will steal the money easily. Hon Gbaja you have my surport on this.

When you borrow, you're indebting the future generation. We fought the civil war without borrowing a dime, so why now? With almost N1 Trillion budgeted for security alone this year- we're still in July- I do not think we should be borrowing N165billion.
Thumbs up for the Minority Leader. He opposed the the proposal and provides an alternative. Let the FG go with the alternative

The Military is in shambles. The few operational hardware have all since FUBARed.

In war you need to step your game up.

You are seeing the financial aspect and cost on the war, can you put a price on the life of the thousands killed so far by these lunatics?

You talk like an illiterate without sense of reasoning?

What do you know about the budgets appropriated for defense in this country? When foreign and local security experts are saying that the money won't be enough. Are you aware that the money that is been given to the army in the last 4 years is not the same as announced by National Assembly. Before the funds even gets to the Army account-a huge chunk of it have been the deducted by lawmakers.

Do you really know how much a fighter jet costs?

Do you really know how much a modern armored tank cost?

Do you know the price of high tech helicopter that can fly in the sky and detect moving objects as far as 2000 feet.

What about compensation for families of chibok and soldiers that have lost their lives?

Do you know that Borno State is almost 91,000 sq km. with the most difficult terrain? Almost X11 of Abuja put together.

We must support Jonathan to fight these dare devil agents BOKO HARAM and stop this unrealistic accusations about stealing the money when you can't prove it. Boko Haram is well equipped and the only way to win this war is to support the military to win it for us not with our dirty comments.

Sadly these persons are always in the majority given the fact that successive governments have deliberately kept Nigerian educational system below standard with a view to always keeping the people below elementary reasoning levels. You think it was coincidence that Wike refused to do anything about the polytechnic strike when he held sway in that ministry? They smile when they scroll through internet pages realizing they have majority of the people where they want them. Shameful.

If gej really loves this country and he's so keen in fighting this BokoHARAM insurgency, rather than incuring debt, he should kindly sell one of his private jets and one of diezani's. We will surely raise more than $1bn, he even have spare for his election campaign.
