A couple of day ago actually the 24th of July 2014, SOLO Nigeria launched new products on their brand of phones S400, S410 and S500. Kudos to them for having 5 phones in the market as these are an addition to their S300 and S350 launched earlier. From an unbiased standpoint, i see these phones as a cheaper alternative to more expensive options such as Samsung and HTC however, the following can be noted about the SOLO phone.

No catchy USP:
At this point in time, their offer of a cheaper alternative places them with greater competition than just Samsung and HTC. Moving from those just places them with Tecno, Be Ultd, Infinix and Opsson. That’s 4 brands that offer similar and cheaper options for end consumers and people are not really swayed by patriotic sentiments to make purchases such as that.

Phone Specs and pricing:
The Phone specs do not justify their prices for a company willing to break into the market.

The SOLO S500 is the flagship offering of the lot.It is ultra slim device with a 5-inch HD display, 1GB RAM, 8GB of internal memory, an 8 MP primary camera with flash and 2 MP front camera. It will be available in black and rose-gold or white and silver.
That’s what is being quoted as their N 33,000 phone. Currently to build an android phone with a chinese manufacturer offering OEM, the cost is about $115, of course other expenses are there but to the general public, all they see is the price which is not quite cool enough.

Cool UI and Phone shape:
Unfortunately, i wish there was more than this i could comment as a positive feature of this phone. However, users can be guaranteed a clean and cool UI as well as a slender and sleek feel to the phone.

Last words: If the manufacturers could work on the pricing and specs, hopefully sales would spike and most likely Nigerians would open more to it.
